Lewis captures first place at horse show &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

ShowThe event was held at the State Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg. Lewis
also placed eighth in Stock Seat Equitation, Jr. Division; sixth in Western
Riding and ninth in Reining. The state show culminates the year for
approximately 7,000 Pennsylvania 4-H members enrolled in horse and pony clubs.
To be eligible, 4-H'ers had to advance through qualifying competitions at
county, regional and district levels. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Old Forge School District recognized &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In an audit released by the state auditor general's office, the Old Forge
School District was recognized as the recipient of the state "Gold Star Award
Program." The program was established to recognize school districts who pass a
two-year inspection and demonstrate full compliance with all applicable state

 Nesbitt awarded Annual Fund scholarship &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Advisory Board of Penn State Wilkes-Barre recently awarded its Annual
Fund scholarship to sophomore Cherilyn Nesbitt of Kingston, president of the
college's Student Government Association. The scholarship was presented in
honor of Jack Burke, president and CEO of Penn Millers, who was recently named
as the Outstanding Community Leader. Shown at the presentation, from left,

Robert Fortinsky, newly-appointed advisory board chairman. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Cultural programs presented &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Shown, from left, are Dennison Advocates Florence Howanitz, Carolee Aycock,
Tom Aycock and Louise Robinson, who presented a program on the lives of
Colonial Americans at the Wyoming Area Tenth Street Elementary School. The
students learned about different types of dress, culture, and customs of the
Colonial American children and adults. A presentation was also given by Jerry
Kozlansky, park naturalist at Frances Slocum State Park, on early American
Indians customs and culture. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Workplace Council makes a difference &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The United Way of Wyoming Valley's Workplace Council recently volunteered
their time at the St. Vincent dePaul Soup Kitchen. Members of the Council
prepared and served a nourishing meal to hundreds of area needy. The Workplace
Council, a volunteer group of active individuals who represent local
businesses in the community, work year round by getting involved in special
