Here we are, the middle of January already. Most people think that January
is a bleak month. I mean, the holidays are over and the most that we have to
look forward to is perhaps a blizzard or big snow storm -- to liven things up
a bit. We should be so lucky! January is perhaps my favorite month of the
yearThis is because of January's clearance sales. Personally I could spend
days looking through the racks of every clothing store from here to the
Maryland state border, and then beyond. If a sign says "50 percent off the
ticketed price," odds are I will buy it. Whether I need it or not. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 You may not like shopping at clearance sales, but I'm sure that there is
something happening in the Nanticoke area this week that you would like to do. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; * * * * &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Catholic Women's Council of Holy Trinity Church, S. Hanover St., will
observe Pro-Life Awareness Sunday today, Jan. 12, at the 10 a.m. Mass. All
members are asked to participate. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 Council 36 of the Polish National Alliance of Nanticoke will sponsor Polish
dance classes beginning at 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 13, in Holy Trinity Church
Hall, Hanover St., Nanticoke. Former and new members are invited to

at the post home. Post Adjutant Carl Aciukewicz will be on hand before and

 The Friends of the Mill Memorial Library will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday,
Jan. 14 in the Alta Harrington Wing of the library. Newly elected president
Robert Dudeck will preside for the first time in his term of office. After the
meeting, refreshments will be served. New members are always welcome, and will

 The next meeting of the Nanticoke Historical Society will be held at 7 p.m.
on Wednesday, Jan. 29, in the offices of the Nanticoke Chamber of Commerce on
Market Street, Nanticoke. An examination and discussion of old postcards of
local scenes in Nanticoke will take place. All interested persons are invited

 Mr. and Mrs. Ben Sabol will celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary on
Jan. 19. They were married at the First United Methodist Church, Nanticoke, on
Jan. 19, 1952. They will be honored at a family dinner. Congratulations Mr.
and Mrs. Sabol! &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 Nanticoke High School class of 1961 is planning a reunion for 1997. The
deadline for responses is Feb. 5, 1997. Those classmates who responded to the
survey will be notified of the place and date for the reunion as soon as plans

 Ordinance #2 of 1997 requires all persons, residents, businesses who own
any structure in the city of Nanticoke, used whole or in part for residential
purposes, to pay an annual collection fee to the city of Nanticoke for garbage
pickup. There are two payment options for the fee, annual and semi-annual. The
annual fee is $120, less a $5 discount if paid in full by Jan. 31. If not paid
by Jan. 31, then the $120 must be paid by March 1. If the semi-annual option
is exercised, there is a $70 payment due by Jan. 31, and another $70 payment
due by June 30. Upon purchase of the refuse sticker, all structures will be
entitled to dispose of up to 4 (30 gallon) bags of garbage per week, plus the
recyclable collection. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
