I finally put away Christmas this past week. We put up our tree and
decorations later than most people and keep them up through Epiphany. John
wanted to know why we just couldn't leave everything until next ChristmasEach
year I am filled with excitement as I get out the ornaments, the construction
paper wreaths and reindeer the boys have made in school over the years, the
nutcrackers and flute-playing angels. And each year by January 6, I am more
than ready to put the stuff back in the boxes until the next December. This
year I had a horrible time getting everything to fit! I guess my unruly
decorations were not as eager to be packed away as I was to pack them. But
with that little chore done, it's time to move on to the new year and new
seasons. Here are some great things to do during this week: &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 * * * * &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; A reception will be held 3 to 5 p.m. this afternoon at the Christ United
Methodist Church, Mountaintop, to honor Mr. Kenneth E. Hawk on the occasion of
his 85th birthday. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 It has been fifty years since Kenneth and Beatrice Hawk first came to
Mountaintop following his return from World War II. He came in August, 1946 to
be the Supervising Principal of Fairview School District. As school
administrator, he oversaw the jointure of eight township school districts in
the Mountaintop and White Haven areas. He supervised the planning and building
of Crestwood High School. Before his departure in 1969 to be assistant county
superintendent, he developed the plans for the Fairview and Rice Elementary
schools. Mr. Hawk was an active member of the Mountaintop Methodist Church,
and later, Christ United Methodist Church, the Mountaintop Area Ambulance
Association, Mountaintop Lions and Kiwanis Clubs. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Many of you have known him as your teacher, principal, co-worker, neighbor
and friend. Please come to honor him this afternoon for his 50 years of
service to our community, and to wish him a Happy Birthday. As your gift to
him, please bring a written reminiscence or note of appreciation to be
included in a Book of Memories. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 Debbie Opiel and the 2nd grade students at Fairview Elementary School would
like to thank Al Groh, retired professor from Wilkes University, for sharing
his time and talent by presenting a Language Arts/Writing Program last Friday.

 The Mountaintop Knights of Columbus will meet 7:30 p.m. this Tuesday at the
Knights of Columbus home. Grand Knight Anthony Biaggo requests all members to
attend. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 The SIDS Support Group meets 7 to 9 p.m. this Wednesday at Hazleton General
Hospital in the former nurse's residence. Josephine Levandowski can answer

 The Book Discussion Group, sponsored by the Friends of the Marion
Sutherland Kirby Library, meets 7 p.m. this Wednesday in the community room.
The book for discussion is The Breaker Boys by Jan Kubicki. No reservation is
required, just come on down to the library for an evening of stimulating
conversation. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 The Friends of the MSK Library are taking orders for pasties at $3.50 each.
Payment must accompany orders. Pick-up will be from 12 to 1 p.m. Saturday,

 The Welcome Wagon Club of Mountaintop will meet for one of its rare evening
meetings 7 p.m. this Thursday at the Fairview Municipal Building. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The speaker will be Dr. Janet Golewszewski, a local orthodontist. No
baby-sitting will be provided. But there will be snacks: coffee and make your
own sundae. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Cost is $2. Please RSVP by Tuesday. The Welcome Wagon Club is open to all
new residents, new moms, newly married women, new citizens and newly engaged

are delivered fresh. They are all natural with no preservatives, and are ready
to bake in your own oven or freeze for future use. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
