Your money for the time of my life &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 It's fun to spend other people's money. Most of us get the chance after a
holiday or a birthday, and the price-tag does seem a little less important
when it's not our own hard-earned cash that pays the billBut enough is enough. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Come on, county commissioners, that money is ours. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I can only imagine how I would run our household if all the county
taxpayers chipped in on my behalf. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 First, my husband and I would both need four-wheel-drive vehicles because
we're on-call all the time (aren't all parents?) and the weather is so
unpredictable. Blazers would be fine, I guess. Make mine green. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 We'll need cellular phones, too, to enhance communication for those daily
emergencies ("Practice was canceled. Come immediately to pick up your child"). &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 A gas pump in the driveway would be handy, unleaded gas for those new
vehicles. The staff I'll need to hire will be more efficient if they don't
have to go elsewhere to fill up vehicles. Remember, you're buying. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I'll need an assistant, while we're at it, to handle the work I can't do
while I'm in the office. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 My brother can take the job. He's known me the longest and surely is the
most qualified. I can trust him. And why should I disqualify him for the
position -- or interview anyone else, for that matter -- just because of his
unfortunate family ties? &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Give him a good salary, twice what the average person makes in the area.
This is an important job, after all. He's working for me. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I'll need a manager, too, to supervise my employees (all right, there's
only one but I'll be adding more soon). My sister is available for that job.
She works out of her house now so she could still do her old job. And I can
give her better benefits. Or should I say you can give her better benefits? &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I guess you'll want to know why my bills are so high -- you're footing them
after all -- so I'll need a public relations person. Cousin Ralph could do
that job. He has a degree in some unrelated field. I might need an assistant
for Ralph, too, but I'll wait to see. If you don't ask a lot of questions,
I'll need one person; if you're nosy and don't trust me, I might need two. I
can save money if you'll trust me to do the right thing with your money. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I might need to do some renovations on the house to accommodate the staff.
Don't worry, though, I won't ask you to pay for all of it at once: I'll get a
loan and you can pay it back over the next 20 years or so. I'll need to repave
my driveway for the gasoline pump and staff parking. I can add that to the
same loan, I'm sure. You won't feel a thing. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 And if you don't think I'm doing a good job with your money, you can come
check for yourself. Of course I'll need staff to help track down the receipts
and a copier and more office space ... &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 It's up to you. Trust me and I can save you money. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 Today is a big day for this newspaper. The edition you're reading now is
the last one scheduled for our nearly 50-year-old press. It's served us well
and with the talented people we have running the old lady, it's given us
papers far beyond what would be expected. May she rest in peace (and be ready
to help us if needed). &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Tomorrow is the first day our new press will print the entire edition of
our newspaper. We've been printing on it for several months now, but tonight
we go live. It's exciting to watch the brilliant colors and dramatic clarity
of the new computerized machinery. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 May she serve us well. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
