 School Board approves $5 million bond &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The School Board approved a $5 million general obligation bond Monday night
to be used for renovations in the districtRay Lowery, managing director of PNC
Capital Markets, Inc., recommended to the board a guaranteed investment
contract with a fixed interest rate. Between 15 and 20 banks and investment
firms will bid on the contract. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Lowery said the advantages of the investment contract include a guaranteed
interest rate of 5.38 percent. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "I think we'd all like to have a home mortgage of this rate," said Lowery. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Business Manager Al Melone recommended the board get the bond process under
way. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The bond money will be used for future district renovations beginning late
this year or in 1998. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In other business, Superintendent Anthony Perrone announced that the state
Department of Education gave the School District a technology grant of $44,000
and a $29,000 grant for an instructional support teacher in the middle school. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
