 MANAGEMENT FIRM WINS AWARD: &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; JDK Management Co. Inc. of Bloomsburg, owner of 10 Perkins Family
Restaurants in Pennsylvania, won the 1996 Chairman's Award at the chain's
recent Franchise &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Owners Conference in San DiegoThe award is presented once every 18 months
for excellence in operations and continued commitment to the Perkins system. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "Doug Klingerman, owner and president of JDK, and his group of operators
represent the best of Perkins," said Rick Arras, Perkins president and chief
operating officer. "JDK's restaurants are well run and consistently rank above
average in guest perceptions on our semi-annual market track studies." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Doug Klingerman, Pat Johnson, Clint Klingerman and Dan Klingerman accepted
the award. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 JDK opened its first Perkins restaurant in August 1988 in Bloomsburg, with
other properties debuting regularly. Among the franchise company's restaurants
are the Perkins properties in Hazleton and Wilkes-Barre Township. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "Our growth has been built on strong store operating, a solid market
presence and a growth strategy we've stuck to with discipline and patience,"
said Johnson, vice president of restaurant operations. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 DERMA SCIENCES PRODUCT WINS APPROVAL: &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Derma Sciences of Old Forge has received Federal Drug Administration
clearance to market its Dermagran Hydrophilic Wound Dressing for use as an
autolytic debriding agent. Debriding agents are used to help remove dead or
damaged tissue from wounds. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "The additional indication for use will fill another slot in creating a
full line of products to address all markets within the cascade of wound care
products," said John T. Borthwick, president and chief executive officer. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 KING'S OFFERS EXCEL WORKSHOP: &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 King's College will offer an introductory workshop designed to provide the
beginner with a working knowledge of the fundamental skills and concepts of
Microsoft Excel from 6 to 8 p.m. on four consecutive Mondays, Jan. 27-Feb. 17,
in the William G. McGowan School of Business, North River and Union streets,
Wilkes-Barre. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The workshop will be instructed by Rick Gasper, network analyst at the

 Coyne Textile Services Inc. has leased 4,800 square feet in a
48,000-square-foot building at 103 Rotary Drive, Suite 9, in the Valmont
Industrial Park, Hazleton. The move represents an expansion of the uniform
rental company from its warehouse at North and Wayne streets in West Hazleton. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 And, Crawford and Company has leased office space at 20-22 E. Union St.,
Wilkes-Barre. The medical insurance service company is consolidating
operations in Clarks Summit and Wilkes-Barre, and the move is expected to lead
to a staff expansion. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Mertz Corporation of Pennsylvania/New America Network handled both
transactions. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 STATE CHAMBER SETS INTERNSHIPS: &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry is accepting applications
for its 1997 Summer Internship Session, which runs May 12 to Aug. 15. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Students will be considered with majors in political science, marketing,
communications, psychology and accounting or related areas. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The non-paid internship is full- or part-time, depending on the student's
schedule. Typical responsibilities include research and writing projects,
attending meetings and hearings, surveys and general office duties. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 JEANS MAKER MOVING GUESS WHERE: &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Dogged by accusations of illegal labor practices, jeans maker Guess Inc. is
moving most of its manufacturing south of the U.S. border, The Wall Street
Journal said today. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The company is reducing the percentage of its clothing sewn in Los Angeles
from 75 percent five months ago to 35 percent next month, said Guess chairman
and Chief Executive Officer Maurice Marciano. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Guess, which for years has been one of the largest clothes manufacturers in
Los Angeles, has already cut its Los Angeles contractors from about 70 to 35. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Marciano said the transfer was mainly a commercial decision to stay
competitive. He said Guess saves up to $2 per garment by sending cut fabric to
five factories south of the border. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 But the move comes amid charges by activists that Guess products are made
in sweatshops, and Marciano said various government investigations influenced
the decision to move to Mexico, Peru and Chile. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
