Martha Newman &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 January 14, 1997 &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Martha E. Newman, 85, of Highland Drive, New Goss Manor, Dallas, died
Tuesday at the Hospice Care of the Visiting Nurse Association In-patient Unit
of &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Heritage House, Wilkes-BarreBorn July 23, 1911 in Parsons, Wilkes-Barre,
she was the daughter of the late Mamie Sneddon O'Brien. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 She attended the Wilkes-Barre schools and was a resident of Dallas since
1955. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 A lifelong member of the Parsons Primitive Methodist Church, she belonged
to the Ladies' Aid Society and was a Sunday school teacher. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 She was a volunteer for many years at the Meadows Nursing Center, Dallas
Township. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred W. Newman; a brother, Bill
O'Brien; a sister, Betsy Nichols; a grandson, Barry Newman. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Lois Schwartz, Reading; sons, Thomas Newman,
Reading; Fred W. Newman Jr., Cleveland, Ohio; seven grandchildren; four
great-grandchildren. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday from the E. Blake Collins
Funeral Home, 159 George Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. K. Gene Carroll,
Ph.D., pastor of Parsons Primitive Methodist Church, officiating. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Interment will be in Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Parsons Primitive
Methodist Church, 223 Austin Ave., Wilkes-Barre, 18705. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
