Celebration to honor King set for Sunday &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Television anchor/producer Jill Garrett will be the featured speaker Sunday
at the 17th annual community celebration in honor of the birthday of Martin &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Luther King JrThe program is scheduled to begin 3 p.m. at the Dorothy
Dickson Darte Center for the Performing Arts, Wilkes University. Garrett is
employed at WNEP-TV Channel 16. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The program moderator will be the Rev. James Doyle, Center for Ethics and
Public Life at King's College. Also participating are the Rev. George Smith,
pastor at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, and the Rev. Thurston Shumway, who is
retired. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Members who planned the program are: Beverly Collins, president; Alfred
Groh, secretary; Rabbi James Michaels, Anne Morris, Gina Z. Morrison, Terri
Nowak, David Ritter, Connie Roth, Kristin Weber, the Rev. Robert Zanicky and
Alan Zellner. The program will pay tribute to the late Selma Danoff, the
event's first chairperson. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Musical selections will be performed by the Wilkes University Conservatory
Chorus under the direction of Alan Baker. Cellists Alyssa and Allison Farris,
of the Mountaintop area, will be accompanied on the piano by Lydia Breiseth, a
junior at Meyers High School. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Youth Leadership awards will be presented to qualifying students who have
displayed exemplary qualities as role models. Prizes be awarded in three age
categories to students who have written poetry that celebrates the philosophy
of Dr. King. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Wilkes-Barre Mayor Tom McGroarty will read a proclamation in observance of
the holiday. The event is sponsored by the Martin Luther King Committee for
Social Justice. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
