Rush Limbaugh, ‘voice of American conservatism,’ has died

WILKES-BARRE — Human remains found along the Susquehanna River in Newport Township in December were those of homicide suspect Richard John Walski, Luzerne County District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis said Wednesday.

Salavantis said DNA testing confirmed the human remains were Richard Walski.

Decomposed human remains were found along the river bank on Dec. 12, along with personal items that belonged to Richard Walski.

The decomposed remains were found five days after state police at Wyoming obtained an arrest warrant charging Richard Walski in the killing of his wife, Patricia Walski, 38. Her decomposed body was found in a garbage bag inside their residence at 195 Schrader St. on Aug. 13, when Larksville police conducted a welfare check on the couple.

An autopsy showed Patricia Walski died from a gunshot wound to the head.

After her body was found, investigators spent several days searching a heavily wooded area along the river near the Nanticoke-West Nanticoke Bridge where Richard Walski’s Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck was found on Aug. 13.

Richard Walski was known to camp and fish along the river.

Investigators in court records filed Dec. 5 when Richard Walski was charged with criminal homicide, abuse of corpse and tampering with evidence allege he sold personal items during the first week of August, including his wife’s engagement ring. Richard Walski also visited several dating websites before Patricia Walski was killed, court records say.

The couple’s 2-year-old chocolate Lab, Yukon, was found in the Honey Pot section of Nanticoke on Aug. 25. The dog had minor injuries from a wild animal.

Salavantis said since DNA confirmed the human remains were of Richard Walski, the charges won’t be pursued and the investigation has closed.
