Leniency is no favor when applied to young people who break the law &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In ``Learning to rise to the mercury challenge,'' Dave Iseman writes that
the student who spilled the mercury in the Dallas High School should be shown
leniencyWhy does this country have rules? Why do the legislative branches of
our government make laws with punishments for breaking them if we are not
going to enforce them? &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; As a society, we are constantly making excuses for the lawbreakers. If we
taught our children from the beginning that doing bad things causes negative
consequences, would there be so many teens in juvenile homes? &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Psalm 199:66 says, "Teach me good judgments and knowledge." Proverbs 22:6
says, "Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will
not depart from it." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 If the law says that the young man should be disciplined a certain way and
if the young man is guilty, he should serve his sentence. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 As for the copycat offenders, they should be disciplined even more severely
because they knew of the adverse consequences and did it on purpose. Psalm
119:71 reads: "It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might
learn your statutes." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 If we consistently enforced the laws we already have, we would not need so
many of them. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
