Columnist can't court Mountaintop, Back Mountain by alienating them &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I disagreed with Tom Bigler on the question of buying electronic voting
machines for Luzerne County during the last election, and eventually the
majority of people who voted on that question also disagreed with himAt that
time I didn't question his journalistic abilities, but after reading his
column on municipal consolidation (Jan. 12), I think I do. I no longer
consider him an asset to the Wilkes University instructional staff. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; While I don't totally disagree with his idea of area consolidation, his
statement, "Back Mountain and Mountaintop residents thrive on the Valley and
do nothing to contribute to its upkeep," is a completely thoughtless and
divisive statement. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Perhaps Back Mountain and Mountaintop area residents should oppose
financing the upcoming dike raising project along the river. Then the next
Agnes-type flood could send Bigler scurrying from his residence along with the
rats that live along the river bank. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 You would think that someone with the journalistic experience of Tom Bigler
would know better than to write a statement like that, especially when he is
appealing for cooperation for consolidation purposes. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 It's like telling your neighbor he is a pest and pain to live next to, and
then asking him to mow your lawn and lend you his car. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
