 Information Center announce the following public programs: &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Ready for Winter? -- Feb. 2 While humans grumble their way through the cold
and snow, birds and other animals must use their survival skills.
Environmental educator Kathy Kelchner will discuss ways animals adapt to
winter's icy clutches. From 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the Susquehanna Energy
Information Center, participants will explore the strategies of hibernation,
migration, storing and roaming. They will also learn which animals use what
skills. The program is suitable for the entire family; groups of ten should
register in advance. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Let's Learn About...Mammals! -- Feb. 8 &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 During this program in the Susquehanna Energy Information Center, children
ages six to 10 will learn how all mammals are alike and how some have become
very different and special. For example, participants will learn how bats
navigate and how mammal mothers identify their young. Staff members of the
Susquehanna Riverlands will present two programs, one from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
and the other from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Pre-registration is required. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 PP&amp;L operates the Susquehanna Riverlands and the Susquehanna Information
Center, on Route 11, six miles north of Berwick, in conjunction with the
Susquehanna nuclear power plant in Salem Township. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 Alzheimer's to be topic of discussion &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Alzheimer's Disease will be the topic of discussion when the Hazleton Area
Pastoral Outreach Volunteers meet at 6 p.m. Jan. 30 in the second floor board
room of Hazleton-St. Joseph Medical Center. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Linda Zaneski, Director of Nursing of the Franciscan Skilled Care Center,
will be the featured speaker. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Volunteers who are planning to attend are asked to call Pastoral Outreach
Coordinator Pat Paterick at 459-4589. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 Mericle to develop site at Humboldt Park &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 CAN DO, Inc. has announced plans by a private real estate company to
develop the fourth largest site in the Southwest Expansion to the Humboldt
Industrial Park. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 CAN DO has sold a 17-acre tract to Mericle Commercial Real Estate Services.
Mericle will use the property to construct a 110,000 square foot speculative
building, which will have adaptable construction features to accommodate a
variety of potential tenants. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Preliminary construction of the building started in December and has
continued ahead of schedule. It is expected to be completed by early summer. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 Registration on for FUNFEST event &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Registration forms are now available for the ninth annual FUNFEST
Performing Arts Competition to be held April 12 and 13 at Our Lady of Grace
School. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 More than 600 prizes will be presented, and overall winners will receive
exposure on television as well as in the FUNFEST '97 Parade. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The annual event is open to anyone ages 4 to 18. It includes 12 talent
categories, along with modeling and photogenic competitions. Participants can
compete as solos, duo/trios, groups of four to eight, or lines of nine or
more. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Mr. and Miss FUNFEST winners will be crowned in each of five age divisions,
and will lead the FUNFEST Parade in September. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The competition will also feature "Master Classes" again this year. Classes
held just before the competitions last year allowed participants and
spectators to observe and learn from experts in various fields of dance. This
year's Master Classes will be held at 10 a.m. April 13. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Deadline for registration forms is March 7. Admission to the competition is
free of charge. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 Local company to nearly double size &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 An 18-month old local company will nearly double the size of its McAdoo
Industrial Park operation. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 CAN DO recently announced that PSI Container, Inc. will soon take over an
additional 40,500 square feet of space in CAN DO's Multi-Tenancy Building #8.
The company manufactures corrugated boxes and point-of-purchase displays. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 PSI began operating in June, 1995, and has since steadily prospered. Last
year, it invested $900,000 in additional equipment and added 60 new jobs.
Total annual sales at the facility are an estimated $10 million. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Between 10 and 15 new jobs will be created as a result of the expansion. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 Bednar signs up for &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 U.S. Marine Corps &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Daniel J. Bednar, a senior at Crestwood High School, recently joined the
United States Marine Corps. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Bednar, son of David and Nancy Bednar of Mountaintop, will report to active
duty at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. in September. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 While at Parris Island, Bednar will undergo 12 weeks of recruit training,
to include drill, first aid, general military subjects, physical fitness and
weapons familiarization. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Upon successful completion of recruit training, Bednar will enjoy 10 days
of leave at home before traveling to a new duty station for job skills
training. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
