 Nanticoke will hold its annual open registration for grades 1 through 8
from 9 &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 29Any student planning to enroll for the
1997-98 school year must have proof of all required immunizations and must be
5 years old by Sept. 30. Parents are asked to bring their child's social
security number as well as copies of birth and baptismal certificates. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 A $30 non-refundable registration fee is required at the time of
registration. A signature from the supporting pastor is also required. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 Annual fund drive under way &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Swoyersville Borough Volunteer Hose Company No. 1 is conducting its
Annual Fund Drive. This year's goal is $15,000. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Information packets and surveys have been sent to residents and businesses
explaining how to donate. Residents are asked to take the time to fill out the
survey and return it with their contributions. The information will be used by
the fire company to help save lives in the case of an emergency. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Fund Drive Chairman Ed Besermin urges the community to support the drive
which is the fire company's major source of income. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 SCRANTON &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Poster contest announced &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Northeastern Pennsylvania, Inc.,
Scranton, invites area students grades 7-12 to participate in its fifth annual
poster contest. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Posters must portray the theme "Be Money Wise: Prevent a Credit Crisis." A
variety of prizes are available for participants, including a possible trip to
Washington, D.C., for National Credit Education Week. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Deadline to enter is March 20. Winners will be announced on March 25. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Students who would like to participate in the contest are asked to contact

 JC Penney and McDonald's team up to aid Ronald McDonald House &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 JC Penney at the Wyoming Valley Mall and local McDonald's restaurants are
joining forces to benefit the Ronald McDonald House in Scranton. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Anyone making a $5 donation to the Ronald McDonald House will receive a
McDonald's coupon and a discount shopping pass to JC Penney on Saturday, Feb.
8. The pass will be good for 25 percent off regular priced merchandise and 5
percent off sale merchandise. Also, on Feb. 8, JC Penney will host special
appearances by Hamburgular from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Ronald McDonald from 4
to 6 p.m. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Tickets are available at the McDonald's locations in Wilkes-Barre,
Edwardsville, Hanover Township, Wyoming, Shavertown and Mountaintop as well as
at the Wyoming Valley Mall Information Booth. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Sponsors needed for Bowl for Kids' Sake &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Big Brothers Big Sisters needs sponsors for its annual Bowl for Kids' Sake
from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on March 22 at Stanton Lanes located in Wilkes-Barre,
Hazleton, Bloomsburg, Tunkhannock and Lehighton. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 For only $100, an organization can have its name or message displayed on a
sign over the lane. In addition, sponsors' names will be mentioned throughout
