FALLS TWP. -- The support staff at St. Michael's School is expected to
strike 3 p.m. Sunday, the Scranton Diocese announced Friday. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The staff -- which comprises more than half of St. Michael's work force --
includes child care and day care workers, educational aides and maintenance
and secretarial staff, said Maria Orzel, executive director of communications
for the diocese. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; According to a letter provided to The Times Leader by the diocese,
Executive Director James Huff told all St. Michael's employees that he does
not plan to hire replacement workers during the strike until further notice.
Students could be transferred to other facilities if necessary, he said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The letter, dated Jan. 23, explained the failure of negotiations with the
support staff union, the Scranton Diocese Association of Catholic Teachers. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Although several calls were made Friday night to the union's office and the
home of union officer Michael Milz, no representatives could be reached for
comment. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 St. Michael's provides juvenile justice, mental health and education
services for adolescents between 11 and 17 years of age, Orzel said. The
school serves 30 counties in the state, most of them in northeast
Pennsylvania. The average length of students' stay is 10 months, she said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
