These days, there are more than a few reasons to come in from the cold &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I've been thinking lately about Miss CaseyShe was my English teacher in
seventh grade at Rock Glen Junior High, a school which is now boarded up and
overgrown with weeds. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; But when I passed there not long ago, she was the teacher that came to my
mind. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I can still picture her, despite all the years that have gone by since I
was 13. That was probably her first year of teaching, right out of college. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The thing I remember most, though, was an assignment she gave us to write a
composition using the word "cold." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 That certainly left the field wide open. I wrote a humorous essay entitled,
"The Cold Shoulder Treatment." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Recently I came across a file of compositions I'd kept from school,
including this one, and realized this was the moment I knew I wanted to write. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 And write I did for many years, although not at a "real job" until last
year. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 So, Kathleen Casey, wherever you are, I hope you're still teaching
somewhere. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Know that you made an impression on at least this one student when it came
to career choices. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 But I hardly ever have to give anyone the real cold shoulder treatment. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

outside of Wal-Mart. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 In cultural events at Penn State Highacres, the Project Concern Youth Dance
Company will entertain at noon on Feb. 6 in the Commons Building. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 This 60-member, hip-hop dance company hails from Massachusetts and serves
inner-city adolescents through the use of dance therapy. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 They have performed throughout New England and at Walt Disney World. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Anthracite Polka Association's next dance is planned for 4-8 p.m. on
Feb. 9 at Stefanisko's on Route 309. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The featured band is George Tarasek and the Polka Partners. Tickets will be
available at the door. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Penn's Woods Girl Scout Council is seeking alumnae to help them
celebrate its 85th anniversary on March 8 at the Laurel Mall in Hazleton. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 If you were a Brownie or Girl Scout, call the office at 829-2631 cq to be
part of this celebration. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Registration begins Feb. 3 for the Hazleton Area Public Library's annual
Valentine's party, which is planned for 7 p.m. on Feb. 11. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Children in kindergarten through sixth grade are eligible, and each child
must bring 25 signed Valentines to the party. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Call the library at 454-296l c q to sign up for a night of games, stories
and surprises. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 There are only a few days left to view the artwork of Hazleton Area School
District students which is now on display at the Hazleton Area Public Library. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The exhibit is part of a community-wide celebration of Martin Luther King
Day which will be on display through January during regular library hours. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

dinner at Christ Lutheran Church in Conyngham on Feb. 1. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
