Casey's offers up-and-down experience &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Casey's, in the East End section of Wilkes-Barre, advertises a selection of
more than 170 different beers and exquisite mahogany decor. Both were
appealing, and the place is still in great shape as far as decorThe large
dining room is decorated with brass lanterns and beautiful mahogany paneled
walls. Tables on the main floor can seat people comfortably, and a small
section to one side provides a nonsmoking area. There's also a fairly
good-sized bar -- Casey's calls it the Pub Room -- with 15 stools at the bar
and about six tables. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; I was able to take all this in, because at the sign that said, "Please wait
to be seated," that's what I did. I waited eight minutes before someone showed
up and said they would be right back, then another 10 minutes before finally
being seated. (A similar scene was gone through on the next visit, too.) &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 After an apology and menus, a very nice waitress said a revamp of the wine
list and menu meant a few items might be missing during the transition. That
was understandable, and I was pleased that she mentioned it. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Casey's has the typical deep-fried bar appetizers; jalapeno peppers, onion
rings, pub fries, all priced between $2.50 and $3.75. Such deep-fried things
are just too heavy for me. However, a plain tossed salad proved simply
refreshing. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 That combined well with burgers. Mine arrived medium rare, as ordered, with
a huge order of fries. My dinner partner, who isn't much of a meat eater,
raved about the taste of a burger topped with American cheese. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I didn't fare as well with chicken and broccoli scampi over linguini. The
pasta was very starchy with a flavor I couldn't identify; the broccoli was raw
and tasteless, and the chicken was overdone with little flavor. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The broiled fillet of haddock on the menu was no longer available,
according to the waitress. Grilled chicken breast, served over pasta, was
tasteless and served with bland green peas. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Casey's is known for crispy wings with hot sauce. Mine arrived very dry,
overdone and covered with something that tasted like a bottled version of a
barbecue sauce. It was smoky, very thick and sweet, with a very light
spiciness. But nowhere near hot. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 A take-out order of pizza went better. The large, round, thin-crusted
beauty was made with fresh dough, a spicy sauce and loaded with cheese. The
flavors were rich and intense and almost addicting. This was one place where
Casey's didn't strike out. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Casey's regular stromboli was a beautiful presentation, too: a long,
overstuffed, crispy dough, filled with cheese, onions, capicola, green peppers
and salami. It tasted great. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Casey's was an up-and-down experience, without any consistency. One night,
the restaurant was out of salad. But my abstemious dining partner raved about
a plain baked potato. Servings were large and the presentation was very nice,
but the entrees were bland. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The service was also inconsistent, sometimes swift, sometimes tardy, though
always pleasant and friendly. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I wouldn't recommend Casey's dinner menu, but I'm sure going back for the
pizza and the stromboli. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The restaurant review is published in the Weekend section every Friday. The
