WILKES-BARRE -- Dr. Cyril Wecht has had a hand in some of the most
notorious deaths of the last 30 years. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 JFK, Elvis, David Koresh -- he's offered his expert opinions in those cases
and thousands more. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Wecht, who holds degrees in medicine and law, entered the national
spotlight in 1977, when he attacked the "single bullet theory" during
congressional hearings into the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He questioned the official ruling that Elvis Presley died of heart disease
in 1977, citing the presence of 10 depressants in The King's blood. When
Koresh and 85 members of his Branch Davidian sect perished in a fire during a
federal siege in Waco, Texas, in 1993, Koresh's family hired Wecht to do an
autopsy. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Wecht, the star prosecution witness at Monday's hearing in the Curley case,
is accustomed to publicity and controversy. He publicly criticized the
coroners who handled the O.J. Simpson case. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 And his testiness in the witness box led to a mistrial in the case of two
Pittsburgh police officers accused of killing a motorist last October. When
Wecht, testifying for the prosecution, was asked by a defense attorney to
describe what one of the officers did, Wecht replied: &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "No, it's not for me to tell you what your client did. It's for the client
to tell me, the ladies and gentlemen of the jury, what he did, what he was
doing there and why he was participating in this." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In November 1995, Wecht, 65, was elected Allegheny County coroner, a
position he first held for several years up to 1984. He continues to testify
as a paid expert in cases around the country. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In his two previous court appearances in Luzerne County, Wecht was on the
side of the defense. He testified for Keith Snyder and E. Glen Wolsieffer.
Both men were convicted of killing their wives and are now in prison. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Wecht's fee in the Curley case could not be determined Monday. But he
charged $2,500 for his work in the Snyder case, the same fee he collected in a
recent Pittsburgh case. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
