 Change in tax collector's pay being considered &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Township supervisors are considering whether to change the way tax
collector &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Thomas Ruskey is paid -- a move which could increase his salary by more
than &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 $3,000In a letter to supervisors discussed at Monday's meeting, Ruskey
asked that he be paid a 5 percent commission -- the maximum allowed by the
state -- on property taxes he collects instead of a flat fee of $2.25 per tax
bill collected and $1.25 per returned tax bill. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Ruskey said he collects about $160,000 in taxes for the township, which
would translate to $8,000 in compensation based on a 5 percent commission. He
said he currently earns about $4,792 with the flat rate system. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Ruskey said the raise must be approved before the next election for tax
collector, which means supervisors have until Feb. 15 to act on the request.
If they do not act by that date, the collector will receive the same pay for
the next four years, he said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Ruskey also receives a $5,500 salary from the Pittston Area School District
and $6,000 from Luzerne County for collecting taxes. Should township
supervisors approve his increase, he would earn about $19,500 between the
three entities. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In other business, Jack Kozloski was appointed to the township's sanitary
authority. He replaces Sherman Sartin, who resigned. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Supervisors announced recyclables will now be picked up on regular garbage
collection days. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
