Joseph Gudz &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 February 2, 1997 &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Joseph J. Gudz, 79, of Spring Brook Township, died Sunday at the Community &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Medical Center, Scranton. Born in Derby, Conn., he was the son of the late &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Thomas Gudz and Stella Gudz Aston. As a child, he and his family moved to &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Spring Brook Township where he lived for the remainder of his lifeHe
attended the Mountain School, a one room school house on Aston Mountain. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Early in his career, he worked in the lumbering industry. Later, he worked
with his son, Thomas, at the Thomas J. Gudz Logging and Lumbering for 26
years. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He was affiliated with the Spring Brook United Church of Christ. He was a
member of the North East Logger's Association. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He was preceded in death by brothers, Edward and Raymond. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Surviving are his wife of 56 years, the former Mary B. Kotwica; children,
Lucille Gudz, Patricia H. Gudz, and Thomas J. Gudz, all of Spring Brook;
sisters, Bertha Layne, Closter, N.J.; Nora Opiela, Spring Brook; brothers,
Stanley Gudz, Avoca; Bernard and Albert Aston, both of Spring Brook; a
grandson; two great- grandsons; and many nieces and nephews. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The funeral will be held on Wednesday from the Brian Arthur Strauch Funeral
Home, Rt. 690, Spring Brook Township., Moscow, with services at 11 a.m. in
Spring Brook United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Grace Dearin and Rev. Jeff
LaSpinie officiating. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Interment will be in the Spring Brook Cemetery. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Friends may call fro 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Memorial contributions may be made to the Spring Brook United Church of
Christ. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
