The most valuable community project is flood protection for all of us &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 For the past month, The Times Leader has printed many items about floods
because about this time every year, we flood victims, taxpayers, big-business
men and women, elected officials, and civic-minded individuals sit by and do
nothing of any importance to help our Wyoming ValleyEvery year we all shudder.
Will this be another killer like the Agnes Flood of '72? &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; I notice that one of our millionaires wants to build a theater. Why? &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Use the money to help dredge, dredge, dredge the river. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Another ridiculous situation is the effort to entice out-of-town businesses
with the planned arena. Big businesses will not pick a flood-torn area. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Our one goal should be to protect all the towns in the flood plain. Case in
point: Wilkes-Barre and Kingston and Exeter will be flood-free with higher
dikes. But with a base 25-feet wide needed to support the additional 5-foot
height, some homeowners will be forced to move to provide space for the wider
base. Our neighbors in Plymouth, Nanticoke, Hunlock Creek, Berwick,
Shickshinny, Mocanaqua, and parts of Bloomsburg will never be protected. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Army Corps of Engineers is dredging other rivers. Why not ours? &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I suggest that all the wealthy and powerful commissioners, congressmen,
bankers, doctors, including news media big wigs, get together and get this
started now: Set a meeting and study the proper way to help our beautiful
river once and for all. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Forget the arena, the movie complex, the Earth Conservancy property sale to
attract out-of-town firms. Instead clean the islands, get rid of the rapids in
the Hunlock Creek area, and make us proud of this effort to protect all our
little towns. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
