Albert Slusser &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 November 1, 1997 &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Albert J. Slusser, Pittston Township, died Saturday at Penn State Geisinger &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains TownshipBorn in Dupont, March 27,
1923, he was the son of the late John and Josephine Slusarczyk. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He graduated from Dupont High School. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II, entering in 1943, and was
assigned as a Ship Fitter 1st Class. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 During the Normandy Invasion, June 6, 1944, he served on the USS LST 55
carrying cargo and returning with casualties to England, making approximately
51 trips &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He participated in the Battle of the Bulge, performing the same duties. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He also served on USS LST 263 and USS LST 271, and was honorably discharged
in 1946. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He was awarded a commendation for bravery from the French government in
1994. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Before retiring, he was employed by Veterans Administration Hospital
Engineering Services as Pipe Fitter Leader and was previously employed at the
Tobyhanna Depot, Directorate for Maintenance, Support Services Division, Sheet
Metal Branch. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He was recognized by the Veterans Administration for 25 years of service to
the United States government in 1984. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Dupont. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 4909, Dupont,
Disabled American Veterans, and AMVETS Post 189, Greater Pittston. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He was preceded in death by his son, Albert, Jr., Duryea; a brother,
Stanley. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Surviving are his wife, the former Ann Kopec; sons Joseph, Harding; Edward,
Moosic; six grandchildren; brothers Anthony and Edward, Dupont; John, Erie;
William, Mountaintop; Ignatius, Nuangola; several nieces and nephews. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday from the Stephen M. Lokuta
Funeral Home, 200 Wyoming Ave., Dupont, with a Mass of Christian Burial at
9:30 a.m. in the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Dupont. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Interment will be in will be in the parish cemetery, Dupont. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Military services will be conducted by the VFW and AMVETS. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice St. John, c/o Penn State
Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, 100 East Mountain Drive, Plains
Township 18702. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
