DANVILLE- Penn State Geisinger Health System has announced that its Life
Flight program will be known as the Life Lion program beginning Jan. 1. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "With the merger of the Geisinger Health System and the Milton S. Hershey
Medical Center, the air-medical programs at both institutions can combine
their forces," program director Michael Leicht said in a press release
Wednesday. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The aeromedical program includes four medically equipped helicopters- two
stationed at Hershey Medical Center, one at Geisinger Medical Center and one
at Bellefonte Airport. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The helicopters are designed to carry two patients, the flight team, a
nurse, a paramedic, necessary equipment and, when needed, a physician or
specialty team. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Geisinger's helicopters transported more than 1,400 patients in 1997 and
have been in service since 1981. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Hershey Medical Center began its Life Lion program in 1986 and has flown
more than 7,400 patients. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Penn State Geisinger Health System serves 40 counties, including
Luzerne County. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
