Kids can get thrill of Wall Street without the risk &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Stock Market Game lets students `invest' in real companies and compete for
prizesLet your students experience the action on Wall Street &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The time has come for your class members to start acting like adults- penny
pinching, shouting all the time, reading stock pages. With today's wild
market, it's an opportune time to sign your students up for the Stock Market
Game (SMG). Consider this a trip to Wall Street, only your students can
experience the market frenzies right in your classroom. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The SMG is a 10-week simulation that allows your students the opportunity
to invest in stocks chosen from the American, New York and NASDAQ markets
listed in The Times Leader. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Players can buy, sell, short sell and short cover while having fun and
learning at the same time. It is a terrific way to teach how basic math and
economics work in the real world. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In addition, it will promote team work and strategic planning on the part
of students. All teams compete against other area schools and classrooms for
prizes. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 Lisa Papada wins Young Columbus contest &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Lisa Papada, a senior at Bishop Hafey High school in Hazleton, was selected
as the winner in the 1997 Young Columbus contest. This year's contest theme
was "Operation Media Madness: Express Yourself Through the Media." Papada's
theme for her media campaign focuses on poverty. She says she feels people
locally and nationwide are not doing enough to help this situation. The title
of her campaign is, "Poverty in America ... And What Businesses are Not Doing
to Help." Papada's media message suggests the solution to ending poverty lies
within us, the citizens of the United States. As contest winner, Papada will
receive a nine-day trip to Italy. Congratulations, Lisa, and enjoy your trip. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Teacher of the Month to be announced &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The fourth NIE Teacher of the Month will be featured in the Community Extra
section of the Jan. 3 edition of The Times Leader. The NIE Teacher of the
Month, selected by the NIE coordinators, will receive an award and be invited
to attend the end-of-the-year NIE Teacher of the Month dinner. At the dinner,
the Crystal Apple Teacher of the Year Award will be presented. Call The Times

 Randy Klaas named poster contest winner &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Randy Klaas is the winner of the Children's Theater Festival Poster
Contest. Children were asked to submit an 11-by-17-inch poster design
featuring one or several of The Children's Theater Festival's features: music,
dance, juggling, mime or puppets. Klaas is a sophomore at Lake-Lehman High
School. His artwork will be appear on posters and brochures and he has won
four tickets to each of the F.M. Kirby Center events: "Miracle on 34th
Street," "Red Army Chorus" and a Kirby Center feature movie. Congratulations,
