 The Coalition of Luzerne County Taxpayers are blaming the wrong individuals
in the county cell phone dilemma. Placing the blame on county employees is
wrongHow can one be faulted for doing something that is not covered by
regulations? The blame for the misuse belongs with the administration and
administrator. The administrator long ago should have established policies to
cover the use of automobiles, cell phones, purchasing and other duties
performed by the county work force. To try and punish now is a case of the
administration passing on the blame. By the way, is there a county personnel
policy and, if so, has it ever been distributed to the employees? What are the
working hours of the administrator's chauffeur/friend and how long is his
lunch break? Are there any job descriptions for any of the county positions? &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Editor's Note: Yes, there are job descriptions and personnel policy.
Employees also undergo orientation- a relatively new program- in which new
workers learn about inappropriate behaviors such as sexual harassment.
Further, many of the personnel policies are described in the union handbooks.
But you're right- there is no policy on cars, cell phones, etc. The county
commissioners and Administrator/Chief Clerk Gene Klein have said they are
drafting a policy on these matters. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I was wondering if somebody from your staff can take a serious look at the
Plains Township road department. It seems like when you call their number
that's listed in the directory, 829-3430, you receive a recorded message,
which says "this person doesn't wish to talk to anyone who has their calls
blocked." Now if this is supposed to be a public service, why wouldn't they
want to hear from anyone who has their calls blocked? It seems a little
discriminatory to me. So again, I'd appreciate if you could have somebody look
into that. Again, it's Plains Township, 829-3430. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

they've changed it. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I would just like to comment on something that really perplexes me. Why do
people who are retirement age or older want to continue working in situations
where they don't have to? Is it an ego thing, or what? I mean, I know some
people need to continue working for financial reasons, and I can respect that,
but in the meantime, there are well-deserving, hard-working people like myself
who are denied promotion because senior employees are not bowing out
gracefully. I have a family to raise and it's just not fair. I've worked with
the elderly, and several of them went right to their jobs from a nursing home
without having enjoyed their retirement. It just baffles me. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The red light signals in the city of Wilkes-Barre are definitely too long.
The motorist sits there wasting gasoline, polluting the air- it's not
conducive for smooth traffic flow. I think they should be changed back to the
way they were and not frustrate so many motorists. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Just reading the "McGroarty calls for regionalization" in The Times Leader.
One thing Mayor McGroarty could do is stop the excess graffiti he causes by
putting his name all over everything. I mean, you can't find a place, going
down Wilkes-Barre, there's not a sign without his name on it. In addition to
that, he seems to use Wilkes-Barre services without anyone's approval. Up in
Dunmore, the Wilkes-Barre Bandstand was blocking the street with his name all
over it for one of their parties. If he can send police cars to Nanticoke and
if he can use fire equipment outside of Wilkes-Barre, he has too many assets.
He should reduce them and cut his budget. That's not the way to manage, by
just saying I have excess and I'm going to let other people use it.
Congressman Kanjorski offers advice also that Nanticoke is in trouble. I think
that Wilkes-Barre and McGroarty and Nanticoke and Kanjorski should merge. I
think they deserve each other. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 This assured how rotten Clinton is. He had to have Bob Dole go over to
Bosnia with him so that he wouldn't be booed while he was there. He knew they
wouldn't boo a good war hero and a patriotic American like Bob Dole. But if he
went over there alone, you know he would have been booed out of the country. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Yes, I want to make a complaint about the veterans administration. I've
been trying to get to a certain doctor up there. He told me to call for
certain services for two days. He gave me the number, you can't beep him, you
can't get him. It took me an hour and a half just a little while ago to get
somebody to answer the phone at the VA. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 At least Fred Williams is good for an occasional laugh. In the last month
or so, one of your SAYSO callers accused Fred of saying he never met a
politician that he trusted. On the air the following day, Fred took great
umbrage to the statement, saying that it could not be true because "I never,
never speak in absolutes." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I'm a resident of Laflin and I'm calling about the dump that's at the
bottom of Market Street, Laflin. I guess there's a sign sticking out of that
dump that says Casey-Kassa on it. These people make our roads filthy. They
make our lives filthy. It's disgusting. We're paying taxes out the gazoo here. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Editor's Note: According to the borough secretary, the caller is referring
to a coal company that's been in the borough for a long time. The secretary,
Lorraine Healey, said she has not been receiving any complaints about the
company. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 What a joke. On Monday, I passed the kids leaving the Heights Elementary
School. No sign of rain or snow. Tuesday they are going to school with the
roads as slippery as hell. What's going on with this town? &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I was listening to WILK this morning and I was so depressed. All it was was
a battering of everybody, every official, everybody that's trained to do
something for this area. It was just so disheartening. Then I turn to WARM.
What a wonderful show. The people in the Valley are calling in about the
homeless and what they're doing about the homeless, and I thought to myself,
"What a difference. This is what we're used to in this Valley." And I wish
more people would forget about that other business and get on with what we've
always been in this Valley. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I'm glad Stephen Mahle is going after his relatives for ripping him off.
There's nothing worse than a handicapped elderly person being ripped off by
his own family. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The managers of the stores of the Penn Plaza Shopping Center there on South
Main Street have to go shopping at Gerrity's, Wegmans or Price Chopper and see
how clean it is around in front of their stores. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 If Wilkes-Barre wants to join Plains, they're welcome to come and live
under our charter, but Plains will definitely not come and join Wilkes-Barre's
corrupt government. If you want to join Plains and come in to our good
community, you're welcome, but don't ask us to come into your corrupt
community. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I'm calling in reference to the East Ender who elected himself to speak for
all East Enders. We think Mayor McGroarty is doing a terrific job since he
took office. The neighborhoods are much better and he is working hard for the
city. As for parking near Holy Saviour, the church has two parking lots
adjacent to the school and they both can handle approximately 50 cars. In the
future, don't speak for all East Enders. Mayor McGroarty has my family's solid
vote. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I'm calling in regard to two telephone calls really. One you had
approximately two weeks ago in regards to the elementary school in the Harding
area and then one, you had a call from the contractor. I believe the people in
this area have to sit back, put up with a little bit of inconvenience as we
progress in this area, and new homes and new families are coming up and
building in this area. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
