You might have seen Mitch Albom on ESPN or read one of his nationally
syndicated columns, but you've probably never heard of Morrie Schwartz. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Albom not only heard of Morrie, but he also didn't forget him. Morrie was
one of Albom's college professors and in the spring of 1976, he told his
pupil, "I hope one day you will think of me as your friend." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Twenty years later, Albom saw Morrie via fate's strange angel, Ted Koppel. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Morrie was appearing on a "Nightline" segment devoted to his battle with
the deadly Lou Gehrig's disease. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Albom had since become a columnist for the Detroit Free Press and frequent
guest on ESPN's "The Sports Reporters" and "NFL Prime Time." He never imagined
he would return to his old professor, but after the TV appearance, Albom spent
every Tuesday afternoon with Morrie, getting a crash course on living and
dying. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Those sessions and the friendship of teacher and student make up the book
"Tuesdays with Morrie." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 While readers will constantly dread the passing of Morrie (and that Albom's
conversational style feels like eavesdropping), they'll keep reading. And
Morrie would delight in knowing that readers are fulfilling his epitaph;
"Teacher to the last." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 There's no sugar coating here. Albom's passages about Morrie's declining
health are painfully descriptive. But the lessons come from the way Morrie
handles daily physical losses. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 As Lou Gehrig's disease saps the life out of him, Morrie sees no shame in
it. He explains to Albom the ultimate sign of dependency- "someone wiping your
bottom." Instead, Morrie feels lucky, "... I get to be a baby one more time." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Readers will be touched by Albom's weekly deli runs. He continues to buy
Morrie's favorite foods even though the bagels and containers of potato salad
pile up in the refrigerator because "... sometimes when you're losing someone
you hang onto whatever traditions you can." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Morrie's attitude makes his family, friends and the reader comfortable with
his deteriorating condition. Morrie attacks his fears of suffering and dying
with his detachment theory. If you hold back on the emotions, you're too busy
being afraid, he says. Instead you must experience everything, then detach
from the situation. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Albom's own brother has been battling cancer but he keeps his family at a
