 So Penn State seeks justice against the serial suit shopper who took
advantage of poor, naive Curtis EnisIf the university has its way,
Houston-based sports attorney Jeff Nalley not only will lose his
player-agent's license, he'll be imprisoned, fined and forced to write "I will
not sully the good name of Penn State" 10,000 times on the back of a credit
card. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; During a well-orchestrated press conference Tuesday afternoon at The Penn
Stater Hotel and Conference Center, university President Graham Spanier called
for law enforcement officials to prosecute Nalley "for fooling around with the
integrity of the university." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Nalley, in case you didn't hear, forced Enis at gunpoint to accept several
items of clothing and other goods during a shopping spree at a Harrisburg area
mall last month, thereby making the mega-talented junior tailback ineligible
for the Jan. 1 Citrus Bowl against Florida in Orlando. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Well, it sure seems Penn State would like you to believe it went down that
way. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Nalley's actions, according to Spanier, are unethical and "particularly
unconscionable, since he knows, as do all sports agents, that offering gifts
to student athletes violates NCAA regulations. ..." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Not surprisingly, Spanier called Enis' role in the sordid mess a "mistake." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "He's asked us to forgive him," said Spanier, adding that the public
humiliation Enis has been subjected to is punishment enough. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 With all due respect to Spanier, it's not even close. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 That the Penn State family- from the president to coach Joe Paterno- has
painted Enis as the unfortunate victim here is pure horse manure. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 And it completely boggles the mind. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Enis, like every other player to suit up for the Nittany Lions, knows the
rules. Heck, Penn State and NCAA officials preach it to the team at the start
of every season. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 To his credit, Paterno doesn't let the kids forget. Why, only days before
the Enis story broke, the 71-year-old coach spoke in-depth about unscrupulous
agents, whom he loathes. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 But Enis- who needed only to wait until the day after the bowl game to make
his departure legit, thereby sparing his family and school a mountain of
heartache- chose not to listen. And for this, we make him an innocent victim? &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Give me a break! &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I was all for Enis, a truly great football player, skipping his senior
season at Penn State and making himself available for April's NFL draft. The
only thing Enis owed to the university was the truth. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Yet, fact is, for all his "Yes sir, no sir, I'm just a team player, sir"
garbage, Enis was just another phony who grabbed the 30 pieces of silver from
the first con artist who crossed his path. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 While most of the Lions espoused the company line prior to the Citrus Bowl,
one veteran player admitted he wasn't surprised to hear of Enis' dilemma. And
he certainly wasn't shocked to learn how his fallen teammate, when cornered,
looked Paterno directly in the eye and lied. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Curtis Enis, the Lyin' King, let down the people he insisted meant most to
him- his family, coaches and fellow players. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 For this he will soon be wealthy beyond his wildest dreams. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
