 This is for the 68-year-old woman who called in about her experience at a &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Perugino's Market. Your comment was the most bigoted compliment I've read
in a long time. You made it sound as if good-looking colored men aren't
usually honest people. Also, are we to assume you're talking about a black
person? As &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I see it, we're all people of colorAs a resident of Mountaintop I wonder
when the owner and publisher of the Mountaintop newspaper is going to give up
on the Crestwood School Board? A good portion of every issue of her paper is
nothing more than hatred towards past members of the School Board. Frankly,
we're sick and tired of hearing about it, and wish that the newspaper would
publish something other than her personal vendettas. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I'm calling regarding the Pennsylvania Lottery Instant games. Back in 1976,
I won $10,000, plus I won many tickets of 5, 50 and $100. Out of a strip of
five tickets I usually won two to three prizes. Back then an instant ticket
game ran only for three months before they put in a new game, and the odds of
winning were one in three tickets. Today you have these instant games coming
out like crazy. That's so you go into a store and people say "Hey is that a
new game? Let me have one of those and two of these and another game, and let
me have one or two of them." Before you know it you have purchased nine or $10
on lottery tickets and there are so many losing tickets in their games today,
it's not like it used to be. I gave up on those instant ticket games long ago.
When they put more winners in the tickets, then maybe I'll consider buying
them again. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I'd like to comment about school taxes. I think that once a person reaches
65 years of age, the senior citizens and the retired, I don't see where they
have to pay school taxes. I think it's the most ridiculous thing. Many of
these senior citizens lost their homes because of these taxes, and your
bureaucrats in Harrisburg, throughout the state aren't doing nothing about it.
That's why they're having all these low income housing. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I was wondering if someone could tell me in the Valley: I had the most
beautiful Mother's Day, Valentine Day, Easter and Christmas cards, is there
something I can do with them? I hate to throw them out; they're so beautiful. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I'm calling to the person that made the comment in the paper about wanting
to know why police get free coffee, free doughnuts and hang out at hamburger
joints. Well, did he or she ever stop to think that maybe the cops that are at
these places have been working all night and this is the first time they're
eating, or maybe that the people that work at these places are happy that
they're there? Before you go judging the cops or anybody else, you might look
at yourself before you do that. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Will someone please call Ron Rome and print the names of the towns and
municipalities and cities that are involved in the 911 number? Based on the
editor's note, it's very confusing. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Editor's Note: All communities in the county are expected to have 911

 This call is in response to a very disturbing problem that exists within
all the school districts in the valley. Why are school buses exempt from the
seat belt law? What the state dictates should be followed not only by its
citizens but also by public transportation? How can insurance allow this
dangerous practice to continue to put our children in harm's way? I urge all
insurance carriers, legislators, PTAs, and school officials to appeal to the
state to pass legislation to install seat belts on all public transportation. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 This is in response to the article that was in SAYSO. The ordinary factory
worker only makes $7 an hour and wants to get away from Luzerne County. Go.
When you fall on your gluteus maximus, make sure you have enough bus fare to
get back. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I would just like to comment on the comment that was made about the
so-called immigrants that live up here on Mountaintop from New York and New
Jersey. Well, I just want to say that I'm one of those immigrants, and if it
wasn't for those so-called immigrants from New York and New Jersey, this
community wouldn't be what it is today. We pumped our hard-earned money into
this community for all the amenities and all the things that it offers. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Calling from Parsons Manor section of Wilkes-Barre. I would just like to
share with the rest of the city the recipe for McGroarty's mulch. First, what
you do is rake your leaves into the street gutters as we were told by our
mayor and a super-duper vacuum cleaner will come along and sweep them all up
for us. Well, evidently that was too powerful and it doesn't work right,
because the leaves were never picked up. Geez, you'd think somebody would have
tested that machine before they bought it. Anyway, just leave the leaves in
the street, and when the snow comes and the water comes from rain, mix it all
up, scatter it around with snow plows, you have instant mulch. I can't wait to
see how great my tomatoes come out with McGroarty's mulch this year. Thanks,
Mayor. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I'm calling from South Wilkes-Barre. I just want to compliment Mayor
McGroarty on the decision to get rid of the cell phones in the city. That took
a lot of courage, and I just wish the county commissioners would have the guts
to do the same thing. Good luck, Tom. Nice going. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 It's Sunday, Jan. 4, and all was quite peaceful in my home in Shickshinny
Lake, until I splattered my coffee all over the SAYSO column when I read the
remarks of one of your callers pertaining to gays being the downfall of the
world. With all the unrest and turmoil going on in our world today, how could
this extremely bigoted individual have the audacity to make such a comment?
The caller then goes on to say that the acceptance of a gay lifestyle
pertaining to sharing a love life, adopting children, and approval of
marriages will be the downfall of the American people. Yet, almost every day,
we read about spousal abuse, child molestation, drug related deaths and
crimes, not to mention rapists and murderers. I have been with my lover for 28
years and there are many so-called straight marriages that don't last nearly
as long. I assure you, my love for him will not cause the downfall of America.
As far as adoption is concerned, if a gay couple meets the requirements, it is
far better for a child to be loved and cared for than to be beaten, mistreated
and abused by unfit parents. Lastly, I proudly served my country in the armed
forces along with many other gay men, some of whom gave their lives fighting
for their country. How can you be so naive as to believe this is just being
recognized? You know, perhaps if you take your own suggestion and look around,
you just might get an awakening of your own and find you've been related to
one of us. For you, that would really be a downfall. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Can you imagine that the final decision up for reassignment of the 911 is
going to be left up to the commissioners? That is putting a know-nothing
nobody in charge of the Pentagon. These guys can't make an ho
