WILKES-BARRE- District 2 moved one step closer on Thursday to having a
"super" football conference. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Lackawanna Interscholastic Athletic Association, which governs the
Lackawanna League and the Suburban Conference, received a majority vote by its
member schools to accept the latest proposal. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Wyoming Valley Conference officials met to discuss the proposal and will
vote on it at 1 p.m. next Thursday at Hanover Area High School. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The proposal brings the district's 40 football programs into one
conference, with three divisions based on the schools' enrollment figures. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "Every year since the late 1980s, we've been getting closer to something
like this," said GAR principal Phil Latinski, who chaired the Wyoming Valley
Conference meeting. "A few years ago, we got some crossover games between the
leagues. Last year, a couple of Lackawanna teams got hurt in the playoffs with
the point system. They decided to take a look at this." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 If the WVC gets a simple majority vote at next week's meeting, the District
2 proposal would go into effect for the 1998 season. If the WVC does not
accept the proposal, it's back to the drawing board. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "I think this gives us a chance to have the best conference in the state,"
Latinski added. "It's going to be super." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 According to the proposal, the Class AAAA and AAA teams will form two
divisions in the Big School league. There are nine teams in each division
which are formed based on geography. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The same is done in Class AA, with a seven-team North division and a
six-team South division. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 And, there are nine teams in the Class A division. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "It's not the most perfect system, but nothing is perfect," Latinski said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
