 I'm calling in reference to the headlines in the Standard Speaker Thursday, &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; January 8, 1998. This is a very, very sad day for the people of Hazleton. I &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 think not one of us had any idea that our District Attorney would lie down
and roll over the way he did. We thought justice would finally be served but
apparently we were wrongI'm just would like to say that I'm so happy to say
that our D.A. has a second career. If we could ever get rid of the man, he
could go into stand-up comedy. I'm glad he thinks it's all such a joke that
our taxpayer dollars are being stolen. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 There is a report on a Cougar wrestling match against the Braves in the
Standard Speaker on January 7 by Bill Crooks. It identified one Cougar player
who was soundly defeated but also had a fever of 102 earlier. Was mentioning
the fever supposed to show: 1. the player was to be admired anyhow; 2. his
parents and coach don't know the implication of a high fever; 3. sports matter
more than common sense or someone's health; or 4. the child deserves special
consideration as opposed to another child who also loses by being afforded the
opportunity of having a reason published? Whatever the reason, none of them
are acceptable. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Because of the decision in the Louis Casari federal program and
audio-visual equipment scandal in the Hazleton Area School District, the
school children have been shown at an early age not only how to lie, cheat,
steal, shut-up and cover-up, but also how to get away with it. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Why should a borough the size of West Hazleton have a tax collector as an
official of the borough when all the tax collector does is subcontract out the
collection of taxes and so forth to a business place that collects the taxes
and all he is is a figure head. At a time when the governments are looking to
save money, why in God's name does a town the size of West Hazleton have to
have a tax collector who gets paid a certain amount and he subcontracts it out
so he gets a certain amount for actually doing nothing. It's ridiculous. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Can it be coincidence in the Casari case that, for instance, who wrote the
gag rule and why? I'm sure the writer was Pasco Schiavo, why we'll never know.
And who gave the opinion that a lifetime contract for Bob Krizansky was OK? Of
course, Pasco Schiavo. When the lady in the valley had her tree cut down, the
surveyor she called was Bill Schumacher. Who is his attorney? Pasco Schiavo.
Who is good friends with Mayor Marsicano? Pasco Schiavo. Right after Foster
Township signed up for sewer treatment with the Hazleton City Authority,
Hazleton City decided the Authority should contribute to the city's coffers,
not that Foster residents are thrilled at being able to help relieve the tax
burden in Hazleton. But who is the HCA solicitor? Pasco Schiavo. If our School
Board continues to keep Schiavo, they should either resign or be investigated. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Well, Gloria, now's your chance to get rid of Schiavo. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 What a sad world we live in. Tony Morelli is back in power in Kline
Township. Every one of the appointments at the reorganization meeting were for
his political cronies, and the Standard Speaker failed to report that Bill
Riccio is again on the payroll in Kline Township with no specific or important
duties, I might add. Too bad Riccio can't survive without Kline Township
money. We taxpayers are so fed up with people like him getting our tax dollars
for no other reason than helping Morelli stay politically strong and in
control of our township. You should be ashamed. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I wish George Pennington's New Year's resolution would
