Black Knights are as tenacious as Bulldogs on the mat &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Lake-Lehman is to wrestling what Berwick is to footballWhile the Dawgs have
dominated the gridiron, the Black Knights have dominated the mat. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; That's why eyes around the Wyoming Valley Conference opened wide when
looking at what the Knights brought back from last year's unbeaten WVC West
Division and District 2 Class AA championship team. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Knights hadn't lost a WVC dual meet in four years, but appeared to be
primed for having that streak snapped. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Knights returned some key members, but had several holes to fill
throughout their lineup. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 This was supposed to be the season that the Knights would be dethroned.
This would be the year some other team, maybe Pittston Area or Berwick, would
step forward and claim the crown. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Those thoughts grew even stronger during the exhibition season, when the
Knights were soundly beaten by Southern Columbia and Hughesville. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 True, this may be the weakest Lehman team this decade. But weak for the
Knights means great for other programs. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Their first true test came Saturday night against Pittston Area. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Patriots already had defeated a good Berwick team, and were considered
the favorite against the Knights. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Even Lehman co-coaches Tom Williams and Phil Lipski knew how tough it was
going to be. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "Before the match, I thought we were in trouble," Williams said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 However, the pride and tradition that elevated the Knights to one of the
best programs in the state are something that can't be measured in victories
and defeats. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 So the Knights lost a couple of exhibition bouts, so what. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Saturday night was Lehman's chance to show exactly why it has been so
dominant in the WVC. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Although it wasn't easy, the Knights made a big statement, with a 34-29
victory against the Patriots. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Unlike the past Lehman teams that would dominate an opponent, this team
needs to scratch and claw for everything it gets. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 After exploding to a 31-9 lead, the Knights saw the Patriots whittle that
deficit away and pull to within 31-26 with two matches remaining. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The four-year streak of more than 60-consecutive WVC victories was in
serious jeopardy. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 But as they've done in years past- and will probably continue to do in
years coming- the Knights found a way to win. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Lehman's Mick Konigus secured the victory with a 4-3 upset against Pittston
Area's Ken Romanczyk at 189 pounds. These two had met eight previous times,
with Romanczyk winning seven. The lone Konigus victory came at the junior high
level. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 With the Knights fate hinging on victory, Konigus wrestled the match of his
life in defeating Romanczyk, who finished third in the Class AAA regional and
won two matches in the AAA state tournament a year ago. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Konigus, along with Nick Raczkowski, Eric Maciejczak and Sam Saylor, are
veterans the Knights look to when times get tough. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 And more often than not, they deliver. &nbsp;&nbsp;&amp;n
