NANTICOKE- Seeking a greater sense of job security, the city's clerical
workers are expected to form a union next week. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The six employees- who include tax clerks, secretaries, bookkeepers and
Financial Coordinator Donna Wall- are expected to vote at 1 p.m. Jan. 20 to
have Teamsters Local 401 represent them. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The clerical workers are currently the only city employees without union
representation, and the only employees without no-layoff protection. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "Job security, that's the bottom line, that's all we want," said Betsy
Cheshinski, who works in the community development office. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Though layoffs have not been rumored, the city is faced with a projected
budget deficit of $500,000. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "The city's money problems are part of it," said Brenda Davis, a senior tax
clerk. "There are going to be cuts. The other city workers all have non-layoff
clauses and we don't have anything." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Davis said higher wages are not a big factor. "I don't know if you're ever
satisfied with your salary, but that wasn't ever our goal." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 New Mayor John Toole said he learned last week that a union movement had
begun. "I don't really know why a union is needed," Toole said when asked
about its formation. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
