Annual black-tie ball to benefit Wilkes scholarship draws 115 &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Grand Ballroom at the Woodlands Inn and Resort was the site for the
48th &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Anniversary of the Wilkes University Polish Room Committee Kosciuszko
BallThe annual black-tie event was held on Saturday, Jan. 10 with a crowd of
115 in attendance. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Event Chairwoman Dolores Bennett, President Ceil Sawicki and her husband,
Clement, and Vice President Jan Kon with husband Raphael mingled during the
cocktail hour enjoying hors d'oeuvres of mini beef Wellington, mini quiches,
red pizza and fresh lump meat crab cakes. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Others attending included Joanne Radzwilla Brown and Mark Brown and Alice
and John Biernacki. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Diane O'Malley, assisted by Mary Watkins, provided beautiful musical
selections on the harp. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Eva Salkiewicz-Munnerlyn and her husband James were in attendance for the
evening. Ms. Salkiewicz-Munnerlyn has served as Counsel to the Vatican in Rome
and is one of few women in the diplomatic corps. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Bernadine Tarasek, George and Dorothy Tarasek Jr., and Andrew and Jeri
Jecen dined on fresh greens salad, roast beef tenderloin and chicken francaise
accompanied by duchess potatoes and stir fry vegetable medley. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Creme brulee was served for dessert on the beautifully decorated tables
with pedestal arrangements of white spider mums and carnations with gold,
purple and green ribbons. After dinner, Leonard and Lorraine Gonchar, Peter
and Eleanor Bednar and Walter and Dolores Floryshak enjoyed a variety of music
for dancing by the George Tarasek Orchestra. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Proceeds from the ball benefit scholarship funds for Wilkes University and
the Kosciuszko Foundation. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 On Thursday, Jan. 8, the Westmoreland Club presented the Yale Exit Players,
an experimental and improvisational theater group from Yale University. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Exit Players were born in the spring of 1984, introducing a new brand
of theater to the Yale campus: improvisational comedy. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 An Exit Players performance consists of taking suggestions from the
audience and using them to create scenes and symphonies of social criticism.
The audience and the actors become part of the spontaneous creation of
theater. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Among those attending were Clayton and Therese Karambelas, Mike and Sharon
Hinchey- with children Westyn and Collyn- Phil and Rustie Blaum, and Ann and
Bob Kerr. All enjoyed cocktails and hors d'oeuvres in the Grill Room at 6 p.m.
followed by a special gourmet menu and the performance. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Sordoni Art Gallery at Wilkes University is hosting the exhibition
"Sally Mann, Still Time Photographs 1971-1991." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The exhibition is a collection of Mann's work that represents more than 20
years. The show is comprised of several series of vastly different
photographs, including landscapes, portraits of women and a series of images
of her children. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The exhibition runs through March 8, with gallery hours noon until 5 p.m.,
seven days a week. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Also on exhibition this month are paintings by Michael Timek at the Tudor
Bookshop &amp; Cafe gallery. A native of Northeastern Pennsylvania, Timek is a
self-taught artist who specializes in colored pencil and pen and ink. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 His works on display include wildlife and portraits, pet portraits and
depictions of the anthracite era. Also on display in the Tudor Cafe Gallery is
the pottery of Joseph Cosgrove. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Cosgrove is a private practice attorney in Luzerne County who earned a
Bachelor of Art in Government and International studies, a Master of Art in
Theology from University of Notre Dame and a Masters of Studio Art from
Marywood College. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Both artists will have their work on display through January. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Reservations are still being accepted for the Make a Wish Foundation of
Northeastern Pennsylvania Crystal Ball. The event will be Jan. 31 at the
Highlands at Newberry Estates in Dallas. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The black-tie event offers continuous cocktails, cabaret-style dining and
dancing to the music of Hollywood from 8 p.m. until midnight. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Reservations are $75 per person and can be made until Jan. 25 by calling
the Make a Wish Foundation at 829-3235. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
