 Penn State Hazleton: John Madden, Ph.D., director of academic affairs at
Penn State York and acting associate dean for faculty for the Commonwealth
College, has been named campus executive officer. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Madden has served as acting associate dean for faculty since August and as
director of academic affairs at Penn State York since 1987. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 As an assistant professor of psychology, Madden taught psychology courses
and performed research at the York campus for nine years. He was co-author and
co-principal investigator of a $658,000 grant for innovation in technology
education, supported by the National Science Foundation. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 As director of academic affairs, he assisted faculty in securing grants for
instructional equipment for Penn State York totaling more than $195,000. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Formerly, he was research director of the Verbal Interaction Project in
Freeport, N.Y. His research explored educational and social disadvantages in
2- to 4-year-old children. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He also was an adjunct assistant professor and clinical instructor of
advanced psychological studies at Adelphi University, where he received a
Ph.D. in 1975. He earned a bachelor's degree from Hofstra University in 1967. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Northeast Counseling Services: Debra Hansen was named Student Assistance
Program Casemanager. She will be working with the Hazleton Area School
District to identify at-risk students, assess their needs and refer students
and families for community-based mental health services. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Hansen holds a master's degree in school counseling from the University of
LaVerne, LaVerne, Calif., and a bachelor's degree in early childhood from
Syracuse University, New York. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 She is a Mountaintop resident. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Penn State Geisinger: The health care system has announced two
appointments: &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Dr. Joel Neuman, chief of interventional radiology at Wyoming Valley
Medical Center, has been named director of the medical center's radiology
department. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Neuman, a graduate of the University of Miami and the University of Miami
School of Medicine, completed an internship in general surgery, a residency
program in diagnostic radiology and fellowship in interventional radiology at
the Mount Sinai Medical Center, Miami. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He is board-certified in radiology with a Certificate of Added
Qualifications in Vascular and Interventional Radiology and is a member of
national radiological societies. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He lectures extensively on CT angiography and interventional radiology,
most recently in Europe. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He is a Shavertown, Kingston Township, resident. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Dr. Glenn S. Sherman has joined the Penn State Geisinger Health Group,
Valley Medical Building, Wilkes-Barre, as an associate in
obstetrics/gynecology. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 A Junior Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, he
previously practiced in Allentown. A graduate of Drew University, Madison,
N.J., with a bachelor's degree in biology, Sherman earned a medical degree
from Albany (N.Y.) Medical College. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He completed a family practice internship at Somerset Medical Center,
Somerville, N.J., and a residency at the Jersey City Medical Center, Jersey
City, N.J., where he served as chief resident, 1995-96. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He is certified in advanced cardiac life support and neonatal advanced life
support, and is board-eligible by the American Board of Obstetrics and
Gynecology. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 General Hospital: Registered nurse Susan Marie Kurlandski has accepted a
full-time position in the Respiratory Care Unit. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Kurlandski is a graduate of Wilkes University, where she earned a
bachelor's degree in nursing. She also is an honor graduate of Bishop
O'Reilly, Kingston. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Kurlandski is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau National Honor Society and
the Psi-Chi Psychology National Honor Society. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Summit Bank: Donald McCarty has been named senior vice president of the
Middle Market Lending Division and is responsible for all commercial lending
to mid-size companies in Summit's Eastern Pennsylvania region. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 McCarty has more than 22 years of banking experience. He joined Summit Bank
in 1990 as a regional vice president for commercial lending based in
Lancaster. Previously, he was vice president and managing director of the
Maryland National Pennsylvania Corporation. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 A resident of Washington Borough, he has served as a vice president of
CoreStates Bank in the commercial lending department and has held various
lending positions at Fulton Bank. He is a graduate of Millersville University
with a bachelor's degree in economics. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Keystone College: Two faculty members have received promotions: &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Patricia Bederman Miller to the position of professor in the Division of
Allied Health and Environmental Technologies. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Miller, an instructor of mathematics, began teaching at Keystone in 1981.
She received a master's degree in mathematics education from Marywood
University and a bachelor's degree in secondary education from Bloomsburg
University. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 She is pursuing a doctorate in human development at Marywood with an
emphasis in education/instructional specialist. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Previously, she was director of Special Programs and Projects, chairwoman
of the Developmental Education Department and developmental mathematics
coordinator. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Jane Julius Honchell to the position of associate professor in the Division
of Communication Arts and Humanities. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Honchell, a speech and journalism instructor, has been associated with the
College since 1982. She received a master's degree in English from the
University of Scranton and bachelor's degree with honors in English from
Moravian College, Bethlehem. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 She is coordinator of the communications curriculum, adviser to the student
newspaper and a member of the Cooperative Education Advisory Board. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Allied Medical and Technical Careers: The school has made two appointments: &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Diane Stilpe has been hired as financial aid assistant. She will be
responsible for helping students with financial aid arrangements in
Edwardsville and Tunkhannock campuses. She is a Luzerne resident. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Doug Farr has been hired to teach business, general education and computer
courses to Administrative Assistant and Health Care Technology students at the
Edwardsville campus. He is a Centermoreland resident. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Luzerne County Community College: Jessica Morgan has been named account
executive in the Continuing Education Department and is responsible for
arranging contract training with local companies. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 She holds a bachelor's degree in English/education and a Master of Business
Administration degree in marketing management from Wilkes University. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Previously, she was an adjunct faculty member in the business department at
Keystone College, the Newspaper in Education coordinator at The Times Leader,
an account executive for the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Red Barons and a compliance
officer for the U.S. Department of Labor. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 She received the 1997 Literacy Award from the Wyoming Valley Literacy
Coalition. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 Penn State Geisinger: Erica Corwin, a member of the Radiology Department
ultrasound team, has been certified in abdominal and obstetrical/gynecological
ultrasound by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Corwin, a graduate of College Misericordia with a bachelor's degree in
radiography, also earned a certificate in ultrasound from the University of
Maryland. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 She is a Wilkes-Barre resident. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 Superior Health Services: The Dupont firm has been accredited by the Joint
Commission on Health Care Accreditation, the highest level of accreditation. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Superior Health Services offers a range of home health care, including
skilled nursing, personal care, physical, occupational and speech therapy, and
medical social work to patients who require services in their homes because of

 Heather Highlands: Jeff Keller, Ellyn Fortney and Marchelle Mack have
completed the second course of the Accredited Community Manager Program

 Pasteur Merieux Connaught USA: David J. Williams has been selected by the
Pocono Mountains Chamber of Commerce as Businessperson of the Year for 1997.
Williams was honored for outstanding contributions to the community and his
accomplishments as head of the largest private employer in Monroe County. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Since 1988 Williams has been president and chief operating officer of
Pasteur Merieux Connaught USA of Swiftwater. A Clarks Summit resident, he
serves on the board of directors of several organizations, including Team
Pennsylvania, Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania and the Greater Scranton
Chamber of Commerce. He is a trustee of the University of Scranton. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In addition, Williams leads the Vaccine Policy Working Group of PhRMA, the
