Jarolin faces a familiar foe in May primary &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 We've only just put the November General Election to bed and already the
time is fast approaching for another trip to the pollsIn fact, candidates who
want to run for nominations of their respective political parties for various
offices in this year's May 19 primary can begin circulating their nominating
petitions as of Feb. 17- about a month from today. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The time for gathering signatures on petitions will run until March 10,
followed by a withdrawal period from that date until March 25. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 For anybody who needs to register to vote or to change registrations for
this primary, the registration rolls are now open and will remain open until
April 20 at the county Voter Services Bureau on North River Street. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 This spring's primary will focus mainly on nominations for state
representative, state senator and U.S. representative around here and U.S.
senator and governor statewide. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 So far as is known right now, just one incumbent state representative-
Stanley Jarolin- is likely to have primary opposition within his own party for
the Democratic nomination for another two-year term in Harrisburg, which is
nothing new for him. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Jarolin has had opposition either in the primary or in the general
election- or both- every time he's run since he was first elected state
representative from the Fourth District back in 1982. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In all of those races over the years- eight of them to be exact- Jarolin
has turned back all of his challengers and left them asking, "What happened?" &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The latest would-be Jarolin-slayer is John Yudichak. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Yudichak, a 27-year-old Director of Development at the Osterhout Free
Library, tried to unseat Jarolin in the Democratic primary two years ago but
was unsuccessful. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Since then he's been building support and accumulating a stash of money for
another try at Jarolin in this spring's primary. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "I got a late start the last time I ran," Yudichak says, "but that's not
the case now, because I've already begun my campaign, even though I won't make
it official until sometime in February." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Another shortcoming for Yudichak two years ago was cash, or more
specifically, the lack of it. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "I had a fund-raiser in November and I raised $20,000," he says. "That
money is in the bank and I hope to add more to it from another fund-raiser I
have planned for February so I'll have adequate money this time." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Two years ago, Yudichak had a corps of volunteers who went out for the vote
on his behalf. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 That group has been expanded considerably since then, with many of the
Fourth District's leading Democrats either committed or re-committed to
Yudichak's second campaign against Jarolin. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Some of those who will help Yudichak are Loretta Chmura, a well-known and
active Democratic leader in Nanticoke; Ben Grevera, another important
Nanticoke Democrat; newly elected Nanticoke Councilman Brian Gorski; Johnny
Roke, a Newport Township Democratic leader, and John Zyla, also of Newport;
Rollie Roberts in Edwardsville; John Temprine, mayor of Larksville, and Bob
Robine, a Larksville official; Carol Houssock of the Plymouth Township
Supervisors; and Jim Pugh, a Swoyersville councilman. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 That broadbased support for Yudichak certainly is of the grade-A caliber
politically and is sure to translate in tons of votes for him in May. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "I'm proud to have those people backing me," Yudichak says, "I feel
confident that I'll win in the primary." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 And what does Jarolin, 65, have to say about all of this? &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "I've had to battle for my House seat every time out," he says. "I had to
beat Joe Yeager twice back in the early 80's, one time by only 12 votes, but I
won nevertheless. And I expect to win this time as well." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Jarolin counts his considerable support throughout the Fourth District
among veterans' groups, the area's labor organizations, and those
all-important senior citizens. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "Things have been tight for us Democrats in Harrisburg since the
Republicans took over," he says, "but I've managed to do my best for my
constituents, mainly the seniors." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Jarolin didn't want to name names of his supporters, saying only that he
has a very large committee, which will gear up for the campaign sometime next
month. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "I don't want to say who is for me because then my opponent's people might
start bothering them and trying to turn them, which is something I don't want
to see happen," Jarolin says. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 As a veteran legislator and a guy who knows his way around the Fourth
District better than practically anybody in sight, Jarolin feels certain he'll
defeat Yudichak a second time. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "I will go about the business of campaigning as I always do by reaching out
to the voters and calling attention to my record in Harrisburg," he says.
"With that, and with the help of my dedicated committee, my friends and
others, I think I'll be just fine." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Two years ago, Jarolin beat Yudichak rather handily, by something around
640 votes. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 It wouldn't be a stretch to figure Jarolin just may win by that hefty
margin again simply because he seems to be getting stronger and stronger with
each successive year in office. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The guy's bulletproof. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Fourth District includes Nanticoke, Newport Township, Plymouth
Township, Plymouth Borough, Courtdale, Luzerne, Edwardsville, Swoyersville,
Slocum Township, Larksville, Sugar Notch, Warrior Run, and Hanover Township
except for two wards in the Newtown Section. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 So far as is known right now, it appears no other incumbent state
representative than Jarolin will have opposition in the Democratic nominating
primary. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Those Democratic incumbents, who are likely to run again for two-year terms
this year, are Todd Eachus in the First District; Tom Tigue in the Third;
Phyllis Mundy in the Fifth and Kevin Blaum in the Sixth. Repub
