Hawks, Cougars await WVC showdown &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Hanover Area can smell a Wyoming Valley Conference East Division titleThe
undefeated Hawkeyes have answered every challenge, and don't appear to be
slowing down. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The lone roadblock en route to their first title of any kind since the
early 1980s is Hazleton Area, also unbeaten in the WVC East. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "The kids are really focused," said Hanover Area coach Paul Martinez. "They
know they belong with the best teams in the league." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Hawkeyes can virtually wrap up the East title on Saturday afternoon by
beating the visiting Cougars. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Hawkeyes are coming off a great week, which saw them easily defeat
previously unbeaten Tunkhannock (39-27) and once-beaten GAR (46-23). &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 * * * &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Lake-Lehman is the other unbeaten team in the WVC, and like the Hawkeyes,
have picked up some important victories recently. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Victories against Wyoming Valley West and Pittston Area solidified the
Black Knights' chances to win a fifth consecutive WVC West championship. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The West title will likely be determined on Wednesday, Jan. 28, when the
Knights host the once-beaten Berwick Bulldogs. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 A Black Knights victory means the title is pretty much theirs. If Berwick
wins, the title likely will be shared. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 * * * &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Not only have the Black Knights won four consecutive WVC West titles, but
they haven't lost to a WVC opponent in four-plus years. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 That nearly came to an end last Wednesday against Hazleton Area. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Black Knights trailed 28-22 with just two matches remaining. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Lehman's Mick Konigus, who has been big for the Knights all season, came
through in the clutch again with a pin at 189 that pulled the Knights even at
28. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 With the outcome of the match riding on the 275-bout, Lehman's Matt Kehler
fought his way off his back and gave the Knights a 34-28 victory with a pin
against Hazleton Area's P.J. Leib. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Somehow, some way the Knights keep finding ways to win. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 Hanover Area's Jesse Martinez is closing in on the 100-career victory
milestone. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Martinez, who has 94 victories, should reach the milestone in early
February. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Should Martinez reach the century plateau, he would become the first
wrestler in school history to do so. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Frank Goldowski and John Bleich finished their careers with 98 victories.
Bobby Hawkins and Gary Lee followed, at 96 apiece. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 King's College wrestler Kevin Lesoine became the school's first 100-victory
wrestler with a 7-4 decision against Scranton's Wayne Reid last Friday. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Lesoine, who has a 100-29 career mark, was an NCAA Division III national
qualifier last year. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 A Stroudsburg High School product, Lesoine finished last season with a 35-6
mark, the highest single-season victory total in King's history. Lesoine is
20-2 this season. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 A big reason for Hanover Area's unbeaten season is the ability to earn
bonus points (major decisions, technical falls and pins). &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In victories against Tunkhannock and GAR, the Hawkeyes posted 11 pins in 26
matches. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 No wonder they're undefeated in the WVC. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 Lake-Lehman's Matt Magee has quietly worked himself into a top-notch
wrestler, at 130 pounds. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Magee is 16-2 this season, with both losses to Honesdale's Ryan Chulada, a
district place-winner the last two seasons. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
