Sister Irene Harrington &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 January 17, 1998 &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Sister Irene Marie Harrington R.S.M., a member of the Dallas Regional &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Community of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, died Saturday at the
Mercy &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Hospital, Wilkes-BarreShe lived on South Washington Street in the
Washington Square Apartments. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Born in Flushing, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Ann
Aufenanger Harrington. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 She entered the Sisters of Mercy in September, 1958, and professed her vows
in 1961. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 She earned her Bachelor's Degree in elementary education from College
Misericordia in 1961 and a Master's Degree in elementary education from the
University of Scranton in 1970. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 She taught in the dioceses of Altoona, Johnstown, Brooklyn, Harrisburg and
Rockville Center. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 She ministered at Project Remain, Wilkes-Barre, and, as a member of the
staff, tutored at the John McGlynn Learning Center and visited senior citizens
in local high rise apartments. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 She was preceded in death by her sister, Ann Fagan. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Surviving are her sisters Mary Elizabeth Ehrhardt, Flushing, N.Y.; Patricia
Lavelle, Garden City, N.Y.; brothers Charles Harrington, Pearl River, N.Y.;
Daniel Harrington, Albany, N.Y.; 24 nieces and nephews; 31 grand nieces and
nephews. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Transferral to Mercy Center will be at 1 p.m. Monday with a Wake service at
7 p.m. in Blessed Sacrament Chapel. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Funeral Mass will be hel
