 Stock Market Game Starts Feb. 20 &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Students in the Wyoming Valley will feel as though they are on Wall
StreetThe Stock Market Game is a 10-week simulation that allows students the
opportunity to invest in stocks chosen from the American, New York and NASDAQ
markets listed in The Times Leader. Players buy, sell, short-sell and
short-cover while having fun and learning at the same time. Students will
learn how basic math and economics work in the real world. All teams compete
against other area schools and classrooms for prizes. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 NIE Teacher of the Month to be announced Feb. 7 &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The NIE Teacher of the Month will be featured in the Community Extra
section of the Feb. 7 edition of The Times Leader. The NIE Teacher of the
Month, selected by the NIE coordinators, will receive an award and be invited
to attend the NIE Teacher of the Month dinner to be at the end of the school
year. At the dinner, the Crystal Apple Teacher of the Year award will be

 Newspaper in Education Workshop set for Feb. 18 &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 From "What's News": Deadline, by-line, online, everything you wanted to
know about newspapers! The workshop will begin with basic newspaper activities
and tips for teaching with the newspaper. It is designed to help teachers make
the connection between the daily news and educating students. Upon completion
of the workshop, participants will receive posters and a new "What's News"
curriculum guide. NIE teachers, watch for your invitation in the mail. All
teachers, watch for promotional ads to start soon. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 NIE Advisory Board meeting set for Feb. 12 &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 It is the start of another year and time for the NIE Advisory Board to get
together. The meeting will be at The Times Leader building on East Market
Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. The board will be discussing NIE Week, a new
curriculum guide that will be available to teachers, ideas for upcoming
contests and overall concerns regarding the program. Anyone interested in
learning more about the meeting should contact Myra Ward at 829-7207. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 NIE Christmas Coloring Contest winners announced &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Newspaper in Education program sponsored a Christmas coloring contest.
First-place winners in grades pre-kindergarten through sixth were awarded a
$25 gift certificate from Toys `R' Us. The second- through 10th-place winners
received two Burger King certificates. More than 1,000 entries were received.
Judging was difficult due to the creativity and style of the entries. The
