 DEADLINE FOR SEED CROP SALES NEARS: The Luzerne County Farm Service Agency
recently announced that the sales closing date for most spring seed crops is &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; March 15Any change in crop insurance coverage, such as the level of
insurance protection on crops or changing insurance providers must be done
prior to the sales closing date. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Waivers of administration fees for crop producers are available for those
who qualify as limited resource farmers. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 PENN MILLERS MUTUAL REORGANIZING: The Pennsylvania Millers Mutual Insurance
Company recently filed a reorganization plan with the Insurance Commissioner
of Pennsylvania. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Under the plan, a mutual holding company will be formed and the rights of
all policyholders as members of Penn Millers will be transferred to the
holding company. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Penn Millers will convert from a mutual insurance company to a stock
insurance company with all its insured remaining policyholders of Penn
Millers. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 There will be no public stock offering and no subscription rights will be
issued. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 ONBANCORP REPORTS EARNINGS: ONBANCorp., Inc. recently reported earnings of
$3.88 per common share for 1997, a 20 percent increase over 1996 numbers. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Net income for ONBANCorp in 1997 was $51.2 million, up from $443 million in
1996. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 ONBANCorp., Inc. is a $5.3 billion asset multi-bank holding company
headquartered in Syracuse, N.Y. It operates the OnBank &amp; Trust Co. in New York
and Franklin First Savings Bank in Northeastern Pennsylvania. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The company recently entered into an agreement to merge with First Empire
State Corp. of Buffalo. The merger is scheduled to be complete during the
first quarter of 1998. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 NATION &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 NETSCAPE CONSIDERS SELLING OUT: Facing intense competition from Microsoft,
Netscape Communications Corp. is considering selling some or all of the
company. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The report sent the stock soaring nearly 25 percent before easing somewhat.
It was up $3.25 a share at $22.50 in midday trading on the Nasdaq Stock
Market. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Netscape was in discussions with America Online Inc., Sun Microsystems
Inc., Oracle Corp. and IBM Corp. about strategic investments or an outright
purchase, the newspaper said, citing unnamed sources familiar with the
situation of the Internet software company. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Netscape, Sun, Oracle and IBM spokespeople did not immediately return phone
calls. AOL spokeswoman Wendy Goldberg said the company does not comment on
"market rumors." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Netscape pioneered the software used to navigate the World Wide Web, but is
now the target of a marketing campaign by Microsoft that is being investigated
by the Justice Department. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Netscape's recent report of a fourth-quarter earnings loss has reignited
rumors about possible acquisitions of the company. AOL reportedly was
interested in either taking over or buying Netscape's popular Web site. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 SMALL COMPANIES SEE SHARES RISE: Smaller-company shares rose Thursday, but
most leading stock measures pulled back slightly amid some profit-taking on
the market's record-setting rally. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Dow Jones industrial average finished about 12 points lower at 8,117
after recovering from a midday deficit of 57 points. An early 52-point gain
had briefly put the Dow within 80 points of its all-time best close of
8,259.31, set back on Aug. 6. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
