SAYSO &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 This is my fourth attempt to get my comment into SAYSO. I'm beginning to
believe that George Smith is transcribing all the calls and he's eliminating
any that come in that are against his views. My comment is: Regarding George &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Smith's article, Friday, Jan. 16, about ``Farmers fear deer damage,'' I &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 applaud him for showing us just how stupid hunters are. In two places in
the article, he states, ``Hunters want more deer.'' It never occurred to Mr.
Smith that that sentence just shot down, pardon the pun, one of hunters' major
arguments on why they hunt, that is, to help control the deer population, to
prevent many of the deer from starving. Any sane and intelligent person would
know that if you want to prevent deer from starving, you don't purposely
increase the amount of deer. I spoke to someone I know who got one deer this
year, and it cost him close to $1,000 for new gear, license, etc., and all he
got was 60 pounds of venison. According to my math, that comes to roughly $17
a pound for the meat. For those hunters that say they have to hunt to feed
their family, I say they should take a course on how to shop so they wouldn't
have to spend $17 a pound on meat. Again I say, thank you, Mr. Smith for
unconsciously showing us the truth. Thank you. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 I just want you do know something. Your comics, the snow isn't blue. Don't
you people know anything? It's white. Sometimes it's yellow, but most of the
time it's white. You people, oh boy, don't you know nothing? &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I'm glad to hear that the Wilkes-Barre police are finally enforcing the
left-side-to-curb law. I drive a local delivery route through Wilkes-Barre and
the West Side and I've had two minor accidents and several close calls from
people pulling out blind behind a minivan or a pickup truck. Their actions
will eliminate these headaches. Now, if only the West Side communities will
follow. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I'm calling about Officer Merlie and the possibility that he might have to
sell his house. I think it's a shame that just because Officer Merlie works in
the city of Wilkes-Barre as a police captain, and lives in Avoca, that he
would have to sell his house and move to Wilkes-Barre. This to me is very
unfair. I was wondering, if Officer Merlie had my name, would he be willing to
back a Republican candidate for mayor? &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I'm calling in reference to the barrage of ticket writing in the city of
Wilkes-Barre. It appears to me that the taxpayers and property owners are now
again paying for Mayor McGroarty's mistakes or whatever you call them. He
spends thousands of dollars reconstructing, puts in free parking on North Main
Street in front of King's College, on Pennsylvania Avenue, and now the poor
taxpayers, because he's showing a deficit in his budget line, now have to pay
for his whatever mistakes, generosity, whatever, at the taxpayers' expenses. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Dear taxpayers: Thank you for the hot lunches we received in school today;
we didn't like them Monday, so we trashed them. Tuesday, we didn't like them
either, so we trashed them again. Wednesday, I forgot that's what they were
having, we trashed them again. Thursday, I didn't like that either, so I
trashed it and then I went to the snack bar and bought two big brownies.
Friday, guess what? Pizza. But I don't like that kind of pizza, and my mommy
said "I don't have to eat anything you buy me," so we trashed it again, and
just think, I'm only in the fourth grade. You have to buy me hot lunches to
trash for eight more years. The sanitation department must be thrilled. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I used to be a Pittston Area basketball fan. It's a disgrace what's going
on up there. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Residents from Jenkins Township, beware of your elected township
supervisors who run your township. ... You better get involved, especially
senior citizens. Get to the meetings the first Monday of each month, 7 p.m. in
Inkerman. If for whatever reason you can't make the meetings, have someone
from your family attend. They won't believe what's going on. Don't say you
weren't informed. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 You know what I've been seeing a lot of lately, Godfather Pizza teaming up
with Orloski's, Subway hoagies teaming up with Turkey Hills, Arby's teaming up
with other gas stations. I told you people, this cloning business would come
to no good. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I'm calling about the letter that a man called in about his wife who was a
nurse died of a heart attack. I too would like to see an expo on nurses, the
types of jobs that they have, the responsibilities that they have and the
stress that they work under. I've worked for 10 years as a nurse, and I've
done things and seen things that would make your blood curdle. I've been
ridiculed by patients and doctors; I've been yelled at, and people seem to
forget, that the only time the nurse is on the news is when they do something
wrong. I'm an LPN, and very often in management they're not even looked at as
a real nurse. I think the people out there need to know the difference in
their titles and what exactly our jobs are. I work very hard, I work long
honest days, and I have another job outside of that. I have a family as well;
my days are 24 hours days. My care is deep and my concern is deep or I
wouldn't be doing it, because of the ridicule and the stress of the management
and the insurance company puts on you for the pay that you get for working
holidays, for working nights, it just doesn't pay. I mean, you have to love
this job or you really wouldn't do it, and people out there, I think they
forget to say thank you sometimes. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I get both newspapers to my home, the Citizens' Voice and The Times Leader.
Can I ask why you didn't have any article on this huge heroin bust that was
made with the three individuals in Luzerne County? The one in Parsons, the one
in Swoyersville and the one down Sans Souci way? Just wondering why you guys
didn't have it as an article. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Editor's note: We ran it the next day. We pressed police for the
information and couldn't get it. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 It was great to see a positive story on Anthony Martinelli. I graduated
with the Dallas schools in 1980. I had Mr. Martinelli in the sixth grade and
he always made an impact on the kids, even then, that many years ago. We all
loved him and everybody wanted him for their teacher. I consider myself one of
the lucky ones. It's great to see that he has the same personality, the same
as when I was in sixth grade. He was the only teacher that I had that I ever
went back to visit. The world needs Mr. Martinellis, and to the negative
people who try to make things rough on him, they're the kind of people who
find fault no matter what, or they have the perfect child that does no wrong,
but more power to people like him. He's a great guy. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I once saw a bumper sticker on a car that said, "Heaven- I wouldn't give it
up for the world." It stuck with me. ... But anyway, I would just like to give
a little advice to some of these politicians. You can't have it both ways, so
think about it. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I can't understand why the issue of Carla Faye Tucker's execution is so
controversial. When Christ was on the cross, he had two men with him, one a
convicted murderer. The murderer confessed to accepting but the Lord didn't
say cut him down, he's saved. And furthermore, all of these sob sisters that
think you can go out and chop somebody up with an ax and then say I've found
the Lord is an excuse, oh boy. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I'm calling about the Feb. 2 article about increased gun regulations to
decrease gun injuries. The problem with regulations is that they control
people, not objects, and criminals don't pay any attention to rules and
regulations. What would happen is that honest people who want to defend
themselves might have less ability to do so and give the criminals and easier
time of it. Please don't disarm honest people, they don't need regulation.
Regulate the criminals. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I don't know if your paper will print this. I doubt if it will. This is
addressed to the officials at the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Airport and to the
workers there. In the papers, it says they have permission to shoot the deer
that are trapped in the airport fence. That's fine and dandy, but just
remember, there are about 10 to 15 families that live along that fence when
you're shooting those deer and the Pennsylvania Turnpike runs right behind the
airport and Interstate 81 is on the other side. Just remember when you're
shooting that there's people around there, if you'll even take that into
consideration. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I see where this golfer wants special privileges that the rest of the
players don't get. When is this country and the ACLU gonna wake up? The use of
a golf cart as well as handicapped parking is a discriminatory action against
those of us who aren't handicapped. Now, don't get me wrong, I feel for these
people, but it's not my fault they're handicapped. Why should I pay for the
price or anyone else for that matter. You can bet if those handicapped parking
signs said "Whites Only" or "Blacks Only" there'd be hell to pay. This is a
government discrimination against the majority at its best and the ACLU should
step in and fight it. If I have to walk, then everyone should walk, and if
they can't, well too bad. And this guy can swing a golf club, then he should
be able to get to the greens like the rest of us. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Yeah, this is to the front page of The Times Leader about the deer at the
Wilkes-Barre Airport. I don't know who's exaggerating that they saw 30 or more
deer. I've lived along the airport for 31 years and there's no 30 deer in
there. The most you see is one to three at a time, if that. So what are they
doing, exaggerating so that they can have the Game Commission take care of
their own problem? &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I am calling about Allison Walzer. Why is it she will allow pro-death
comments in this column, SAYSO, but she will not allow pro-life comments. She
does not seem to understand compassion ... &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Editor's note: Allison doesn't do all the editor's notes for SAYSO. Several
editors handle calls. And SAYSO does not discriminate. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I'm calling in regard to the traffic sign mess at the corner of South River
Street and Market Street. I don't know what was wrong with the signalling
before, but now you have no turn on red and a little past that you have a
yield sign. What are we supposed to do? Are we supposed to stop or are we
supposed to yield? Thank you. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I don't see how the person who called in can call themselves a Band Booster
for Hanover Area. Had this first person been a booster, this person would have
known that fund-raising goes on all year and some band members have enough
money in their accounts to cover the whole trip or at least part of it and
will be able to easily raise the amount needed by April. I believe that person
is one of the small handful that never does any fund-raising and lets it up to
someone else until it comes time to get something for themselves. ... These
two persons who called in are probably members of a small handful of people
that have been working to put down the band, the boosters group and the
director. It's easy to call in to the paper and complain but I challenge these
people to step forward at the next meeting with their comments and admit they
called in. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 So you still don't believe angels are for real? If you visit the nurse's
station on the 8th floor of the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, you'll see a
group of them flitting in and out of the patient's rooms. ... Then, there's an
angel who operates at Third Street in West Wyoming. ... Look around you now.
You may very well see one yourself. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 As we all know by now, the United States for the first time in history has
what they refer to as a balanced budget. Recently, I've been hearing new
programs being added to our expense account requiring hundreds of millions of
dollars. In the context of a balanced budget, to add a new program, you have
to take some away from another to keep it balanced. I wonder if Mr. Kanjorski
can tell us which ones will be getting less so somebody else can get more. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I think 911 should be changed to 111 because on rotary telephones, you
stick your finger in the 9 and you have to go all the way around. It should be
111 for people with rotary telephones. In an emergency, every second counts. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Yeah, what's with these some unmarked police cars. We're not supposed to
think it's a police car with those numbers on the side. I don't understand
that. What, the lights make it a police car? What do we think it is, a taxi?
Come on, be real. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Yes, I just heard the verdict on the Tolbert case. I just wish and hope
that the jury can sleep at night. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Hi. I think someone should start investigating (name of school deleted)
basketball program. The tactics used, the PIAA regulations that were broken
already this year, and several other things. Thank you. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

confirm what you say. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I'd just like to call and thank everyone at the Heinz Rehabilitation
Center. I was up there for two weeks and I've been to a lot of other hospitals
in the valley, and let me tell you, I have never seen such a well-run place.
The nursing staff. The therapy staff. The kitchen staff. Everyone. The doctors
including. You ring the buzzer, they were right there. They're clean. It's a
pleasure to have a hospital like that. I just want to say thank you to them
all. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I think the President's State of the Union address was 99 percent complete.
The missing 1 percent was the neglect of the plight of our nation's veterans.
With the budget almost on cue, let's hear a resounding yes for a federal
bonus. I would bring some or most of us up to a step above the poverty level.

 Here's a thought for the people who talk about "those people." No matter
what the differences are, try to take a lot around you. You may be someone
else's "those people," and as you are so fond of pointing out the Bible,
please remember that the Lord also said, "Love one another" and "Judge not
lest ye be judged." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Yes, in your Saturday morning SAYSO, someone wrote in to say that they see
by the calls from SAYSO- it's got to be this person that dislikes Clinton so
much, always calling in- about we're getting dumber and dumber because they're
comparing us with our husband and wife unions to compare him. First of all,
honey, what he did, if he did, was wrong, if it is, but why is everybody
putting the blame on him and not on the women who go running after these
notable people? They do this for a reason, so that they could get something
out of it. ... Oh my God, how jealous you are of him. What's the matter,
honey, did your husband stray? &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I thought it was excellent coverage that you had on the pro-life
demonstration in Washington. And to that person who said what about the women
who died from botched abortions before 1973, that's a specious argument. What
about people who were killed while trying to hold up banks in the commission
of a crime. It's no different. The person who's trying to kill their unborn is
committing a crime, a heinous crime, and it's just too bad that they give up
their own life in trying to commit a heinous crime. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 It's Sunday, Feb. 1st, and I'm reading your sports section and I'm glad to
see somebody finally decided to write an article in the paper about Paul
Sokoloski. I'm 28 years old. I've lived in this valley all my life. I've
played various sports, graduated from Meyers High School. I know various
sports writers from playing sports over the years, and I have never in my life
met anyone so opinionated. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 This morning I was reading in the paper about the person who called in
about Dallas not having Martin Luther King's Day off. I'm a parent of three
children who went to the Dallas School District, and are no longer there, not
because of that reason, but it always amazed me that we never had that day
off. One day, I didn't get my children up for school because it was Martin
Luther King's Birthday, assuming that Dallas had it off, and they said "Oh no,
Ma, we don't celebrate it." To say the least, I was really appalled that they
call their school a good school. They're not teaching respect, and they're not
teaching what history was all about. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I'm calling about the recipe from the Wyoming Valley Health Care Systems
"Healthy kitchen." There's a recipe in Sunday's paper called "Crepes." This is
a very erroneous recipe. True crepes, as you can ask any chef is never made
with baking powder. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I think that Steve Corbett has said all that he has to say about Bill
Clinton. Several columns about him as a matter of fact. So now, until he gets
off the subject, I'm just not reading him. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I just read your article about Tunkhannock bracing itself for a new bypass
connecting Route 29 to Route 6 and Route 92. It just amazes me how history
keeps repeating itself. Just take a look at any town that removes its traffic
from its Main Street, they almost always become ghost towns. Well, Tunkhannock
better brace itself for a few more changes. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 This is for the nurse who called in to thank the union for spending her
money. I want you to think back two years ago when the nursing managers and
the nursing supervisors were being forced to reapply for their jobs, and you
can thank the union for saving your job. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
