 APPOINTMENT &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Pennsylvania Pro-Law Program: Attorney Joseph Paul Joseph III has been
named regional director. The Pro-Law Program is a statewide educational
lecture series designed to teach school children and college students about
the history and development of the law and law school. It also is designed to
teach the public about the legal profession and RETIREMENTS &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 PP&amp;L: The company has announced two retirements of senior managers: &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 John P. Kierzkowski, president of PP&amp;L Spectrum, Inc., will retire
effective March 1. Kierzkowski has served as president of PP&amp;L Spectrum since
its founding in July 1995. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He joined the PP&amp;L organization as manager of Financial Research in 1971.
He became assistant treasurer in 1981 and was elected vice president and
treasurer in 1985, a position that he held until being elected president of
PP&amp;L Spectrum in 1995. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Frank Long, PP&amp;L Resources executive vice president, will serve as Spectrum
president while retaining his current responsibilities as chief operating
officer. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Ronald E. Hill, senior vice president of Financial for PP&amp;L Resources since
1994, retired effective Feb. 1. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He began his career as a graduate trainee. After serving in a number of
accounting positions, he was named supervisor of Financial Reporting in 1974.
He also served as manger-Financial Reporting and as assistant comptroller
before being named vice president and comptroller in 1987. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 Wyoming Valley Health Care System: Robert Bray, director of Fiscal Services
recently was elected president of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the
Healthcare Financial Management Association. Bray, an 18-year employee, is a

 West Side Machine and Tool Co.: Mike Gray, Dan Baggett, Sean Gray and Ryan
Lupole, all members of the CNC Department, recently completed a CNC

 Each student received 40 hours of training by Jack Meade of The Wolf Group,

 Century 21 Ruggiero Real Estate: The firm's top associates were honored
during the annual Pocono Team Awards luncheon at Pocono Manor. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Donna Olson was honored as the No. 1 sales representative for 1997, selling
53 units for $3.585 million. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Pat Carson was named top listing associate for 1997 with 80 units. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Recognized as members of the Masters Club, which includes sales
representatives closing a minimum 36 units or $3 million in sales, were Olson,

 Pat Potter received the Silver Club Award and Elizabeth Gerth was honored

 Lutheran Brotherhood: Irene S. Molzahn of Hawley has earned membership in
the Lutheran Brotherhood's 1997 Executives' Club. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Molzahn is associated with the organization's Lewisburg Agency.
Representatives qualify for membership in the Executives' Club based on the
performance in selling insurance and investment products to Lutherans. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center: The medical center and
Borton-Lawson Engineering have been selected to receive the 1998 Honor Award
for Engineering Excellence for Building Services for the center's day tank
replacement project. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 This is the only award presented by Consulting Engineers Council of
Pennsylvania in one of the seven categories of the program. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The award was presented last month at the CEC/PA Engineering Excellence
Awards Banquet in Hershey. Accepting the award for the medical center was Ray
Petrunich, Facilities Management Support Service. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 Mercy Health System: Marnetta Shelter Bradford of Shavertown, Kingston
Township, has been certified as a family nurse practitioner by the American
Academy of Nurse Practitioners and the American Nurses Credentialing Center. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Bradford joined the Mercy Physicians' Network in June. She works with Dr.
Joseph A. Anistranski in his family practice in Wilkes-Barre. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 She earned a Master of Science in Nursing, family nurse practitioner from
College Misericordia in May 1997. She also holds an as Master of Science
degree in community health nursing from Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio,
a Bachelor of Nursing degree from Eastern Mennonite University, Harrisonburg,
Va., and a registered nurse diploma from St. Luke's Hospital School of
Nursing, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Previously, she was a patient-care coordinator for Hospice St. John,
Wilkes-Barre, and held staff nurse positions at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, and
the University of Iowa. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 As a volunteer in El Salvador in 1985 for Mennonite Central Committee of
Akron, she taught basic health care to local health promoters, coordinated the
screening and treatment of tuberculosis and educated North Americans regarding
the political situation in El Salvador. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 She also volunteered in Brazil from 1980 to 1983 with Mennonite Central
Committee working as a registered nurse and in community development. While
there, she taught health classes for women and children. Bradford visited
mothers for assistance and encouragement in breast feeding. She also gave
assistance with water filter and cistern projects. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 She is a member of regional and national nursing organizations and authored
an article in Applied Nursing Research on health concerns of adolescents in a
runaway shelter. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 CONFERENCE &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Wilkes University: Political Science Department faculty members
participated in the 29th annual meeting of the Northeast Political Science
Association and the International Studies Association Northeast held in
Philadelphia. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Attending from Wilkes were Dr. Thomas Baldino, professor and chair, and Dr.
Patricia Siplon and Dr. James Yoho, assistant professors of political science. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Baldino served as chair and discussant for several panels, including
"Alternative Perspectives on U.S. House Elections" and "The Process of Defense
and Foreign Policy." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Yoho participated in a panel on "The Courts and the Political System," and
Siplon presented a paper on "Too Much of a Good Thing: The Failure of
Hemophilia Interest Groups in the Age of AIDS." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 Penn State Geisinger: Dr. Ronald I. Harris, clinical program director for
diabetes for the health system and an associate in endocrinology for the
Wilkes-Barre health group, was make two presentations this month. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He will discuss "The National Provider Recognition Program" at a conference
of primary-care physicians in Fort Lauderdale sponsored by the American
Diabetes Association. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 And, he will discuss "Therapeutic Options for the Treatment of Type 2
Diabetes" at a Strategies for Clinical Excellence symposium in Long Beach,
Calif. That symposium is sponsored by Long Island Jewish Medical Center,
Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Harris received the Recognition with Distinction award from the American
Diabetes Association/National Committee for Quality Assurance Provider
Recognition Program in November. He also was presented the Special Achievement
Award by the Luzerne County Chapter of the American Diabetes Association. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 A graduate of Franklin and Marshall College, he earned his medical degree
from the Tulane University School of Medicine and completed a fellowship
program at the University of Pennsylvania. He is a Fellow of the American
College of Clinical Endocrinologist and is board certified in
endocrinology/metabolism and internal medicine. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 Penn State Geisinger: Lorraine Daniels, cardiac sonographer, and Mary Beth
Davis, receptionist in the obstetrics/gynecology department for the Valley
Medical Building health group, have been named employees of the month for

 Daniels has been a member of the Penn State Geisinger staff for 10 years. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 A graduate of Keystone Junior College, she is a member of the Alliance of
Cardiovascular Professionals and the Northeastern Pennsylvania Society of
Ultrasound. She also serves as secretary for the Right to Education Task
Force. She is a Laflin resident. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Davis has been associated with Penn State Geisinger for 16 years. Davis
attended Luzerne County Community College. She is a Dupont resident. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Wayne Memorial Hospital: Michael Clifford, controller, has been named 1997
employee of the year. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Clifford, a 20-year employee, is a graduate of King's College, where he

 He previously worked for Price Waterhouse, Columbia, S.C., Blue Cross of
