Susquehanna gets big boost from Hazleton Area product &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Susquehanna University swingman Rob Makarewicz was selected to this week's &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Division III Basketball online team and the Middle Atlantic Conference
Men's &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Basketball weekly honor rollA sophomore out of Hazleton Area High School,
Makarewicz averaged 24.0 points and 4.5 rebounds while shooting 46.7 percent
from three-point range in a 1-1 week for the Crusaders. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "He poses a real threat because he can drive the ball in addition to
shooting it," Susquehanna head coach Frank Marcinek said. "He's become real
tough to guard because he can now score inside or outside." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Makarewicz leads the team in three-point field goal percentage (42.9) and
steals (1.6 per game), and is second in scoring (15.1 ppg.). He is ranked
seventh in the MAC in three-point goals per game (2.0) and three-point
percentage. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 An accounting major, he is the son of Robert and Agnes Makarewicz of
Sugarloaf. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 LJC Notes &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Mark Slivka, Lackawanna Junior College's career leader in tackles, has
signed a football letter of intent with Division II Mercyhurst College.
Slivka, a 6-foot, 240-pound middle linebacker, had 121 tackles in '97 and was
the first LJC player to amass 100 tackles in a season. Slivka carries a 3.5
grade point average at Lackawanna and will major in computer systems at
Mercyhurst. Other Falcon signees include defensive end Kevin Johnson
(University of South Carolina), and cornerback Renard Cox and defensive end
Nate Rust (both University of Maryland). &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Sophomore Kevin Miller, a former Wyoming Valley West pitcher, could miss
part of the LJC baseball season. Miller fractured two bones in his face and
suffered a broken nose when a batted ball struck his face while pitching
batting practice. Miller, who was the Wyoming Valley Conference Player of the
Year his senior year, will undergo surgery on Monday. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 Bloomsburg University- Jeff Benson is among the leaders in the PSAC in
field goal percentage with 50.8 percent. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 College Misericordia- Bob Tugend is ranked 24th in NCAA Division III in
steals with 3.0 per game. He moved up to second in scoring (19.0) and fifth in
assists (3.5) in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference. Teammates Ben Augustine
and Gus Wagner are eighth (6.4) and ninth (6.0), respectively, in rebounding
in the PAC. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 King's College- Corey Dickerson ranks second in the MAC in assists (5.5)
and 10th in steals (1.8). Ryan Ziegler is fifth in the conference in
three-pointers per game (2.1) and ninth in steals (1.9). Joe Rodzinak (so.,
GAR) adds 8.8 points and Kevin Vincavage (fr., Wyoming Area) adds 8.1. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 University of Scranton- Jason Fisher is one of the top scorers in NCAA
Division III with 22.2 points per game. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Wilkes University- Mike Barrouk (sr. Bishop Hoban) leads the team at 18.5
ppg., Dave Jannuzzi (so., Meyers) has 16.6, and Brian Gryboski (jr., Bishop
Hoban) is averaging 13.1 points and 6.1 rebounds. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Women's Basketball &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Bloomsburg University- Michele Ruzicka leads her team with 16.6 points and
8.0 rebounds. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 College Misericordia- Megan Kopicki (jr., Bishop O'Reilly) ranks 13th in
NCAA Division III with 4.4 steals per game, is eighth in rebounding (8.7) and
fifth in assists (3.8) in the PAC. Jeanette Manorek (so., Bishop O'Reilly) is
10th in rebounding (7.2) in the PAC. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Franklin &amp; Marshall College- Jen Gibbon (jr., Hanover Area) leads her team
in rebounds (7.5) and is tied for second in scoring (8.9). She scored 12
points and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds in a recent 70-55 victory
over Gettysburg. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 King's College- Joanne Polakoski (so., Meyers) ranks sixth in the MAC in
scoring (17.3), and third in rebounding (9.9) and field goal goal percentage
(58.2). Elaine Colyer ranks seventh in the MAC in scoring (16.6), third in
three-pointers per game (1.6), ninth in three-point percentage (32.5), fifth
in foul shooting (78.8), and eighth in assists (3.5). Heather Medashefski
(jr., Hazleton Area) is first in blocked shots (2.8), and Kim Stetter is sixth
in three-point percentage (36.4). Tracie Bellas (jr., Bishop Hoban) adds 7.2
points per game. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Kutztown University- Brianne Homyak (fr., Marian Catholic) is second on the
team in scoring (10.2) and rebounding (5.2). Stacie Miscavage (so., Bishop
Hoban) averages 5.4 points and 4.1 rebounds, and Jennifer Lojewski (fr.,
Bishop O'Reilly) adds 2.2 points. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Lock Haven University- Tanya Jones (GAR) is averaging 3.8 points and 3.7
rebounds per game, and Becky Ostrowsky (Bishop O'Reilly) adds 1.5 points and

 Shippensburg University- Janette Pieczynski (fr., Wyoming Valley West)
scored a career-high 22 points in an 85-84 victory over Slippery Rock. She
also scored 14 points in a 93-86 victory over Pitt-Johnstown. Stephanie
Rothery (fr., Berwick) scored eight points and grabbed 11 rebounds in a 62-40

Katie Watkins (so., Hanover Area) has 12.7 points, and Tracy Zaykoski (jr.,

 Drexel University- Holly Waters (fr., Bishop Hoban) finished 32nd in the
5,000 meters in 19:56.83 in the recent Terrier Invitational in Boston. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Swimming &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Drexel University- Sarah Setta (fr., Bishop Hoban) won the 50 freestyle in
25.38 seconds in a recent 109-107 loss to Rider. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 East Stroudsburg University- Jenny Heid (so., Valley View) broke the school
record in the 100 backstroke in 1:03.18 in a recent 142-90 victory over
Millersville. She broke her own record of 1:03.99 set last year. Erin Dobey
(fr., Berwick) won the 100 and 200 breaststroke in 1:14.52 and 2:40.21,
respectively. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Volleyball &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 College Misericordia- Michelle Myers, a senior, ranked fifth in blocks with
1.96 per game in the final NCAA Division III statistics. The Cougars ranked
fifth in the team blocks category with 3.69 per game. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Wrestling &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Bloomsburg University- Heavyweight Jason Grimm (20-4) ranks second in his
class in the PSAC, and 18th overall in victories. He ranks fourth in falls
(nine) and is tied for fourth in fastest falls (24 seconds). Ed Hockenberry
(17-2) is second in the 142-pound class and 28th overall in victories, and
Cassidy Shults (14-6) is third at 158 and tied for fourth in major decisions
(six). Hockenberry and Todd Hockenbroch finished second in last weekend's PSAC
Championships, and Shults, Grimm, and Kris Smith took third. Chad Eckert and
Jason Hiltabidel finished fourth for the Huskies. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 King's College- Kevin Lesoine (142) leads the Monarchs with a 29-2 record.

Week. He averaged 21 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.6 steals, and 3.6 assists per
game in a 3-0 week for the Cougars. He was also named Misericordia's Athlete
of the Month for January. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Wilkes University- Wilkes-Barre's Jannuzzi was named MAC Freedom League
Player of the Week after averaging 22.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and shooting
82.3 percent from the free throw line in two Colonel victories. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Women's Basketball &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Bloomsburg University- For the third consecutive week, Ruzicka was named
PSAC Eastern Division Player of the Week. She averaged 18.5 points and 8.5
rebounds in two Husky victories. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Franklin &amp; Marshall College- Wilkes-Barre's Gibbon was selected to the
Centennial Conference Honor Roll after averaging 10.0 points and 9.0 rebounds
