 Why don't the stores use the money system on the shopping system like all
these food stores. You put a quarter in a slot, you release the cart, the
parking lots are clean, you don't see the carts all over the place. Also you
wouldn't have damage and dents to your carI think that Ed Soltis should run
for mayor. You should listen to a scanner. Those cops are running around left
and right. They do deserve a raise. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; In the Feb. 2 SAYSO, someone complained about the 50 percent increase in
his license fee and wondered where PennDOT is spending the money that should
be spent on roads. Several years ago, we had a Pennsylvania Highways
Department and all the money was spent on roads. Then our politicians changed
it to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and started spending
highway funds on the big-city mass transit systems, airports and much more.
Recently, a newspaper article in the New Age Examiner stated that $139,000 of
PennDOT funds was given to the Skyhaven Airport in Tunkhannock, a privately
owned airport, to upgrade the parking aprons in the facilities of this
privately owned airport. This is why our roads and bridges have deteriorated
and why our licenses and taxes have soared, including gasoline taxes. Tell
them to go back to the Pennsylvania Highways Department so the tax money will
be spent on the roads. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Has anyone told your editor that he is very sarcastic? I don't think it's
necessary that he has to be that sarcastic. I'm sure this call will get
another sarcastic remark from him. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 I'm calling about Bishop Timlin. Now, I'm a Catholic, but I don't think
that that's right that he should say she didn't deserve to die. C'mon Bishop
Timlin, she was a woman that took (two) lives with a pickax. That's why all of
our prisons are so crowded. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I'm rather curious how Monsignor McGowan, a Roman Catholic priest, could
afford to live at Glenmaura. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I think it's ridiculous that Sally Healey, on the cover of your paper,
going after a treehouse. Isn't that a little ridiculous? &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 This is my sixth attempt to get my call printed. My comment is regarding
George Smith's article of Friday, Jan. 16, that farmers fear deer damage. In
two places in the article, he states, hunters want more deer. That sentence
shot down one of the hunters' major arguments of why they hunt. That is to
help control the deer population to prevent many of the deer from starving.
Any intelligent person would know that if you want to help prevent deer from
starving, you don't increase the amount of deer. I spoke to someone I know who
got one deer this year and it cost him close to $1,000 for new gear, license,
etc. And all he got was 60 pounds of venison. That's about $17 a pound in
meat. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 If I remember correctly, the parking lot on West Northampton Street across
from the side of the YMCA building was supposed to be used to build a
high-rise building. The benefits or the proceeds from that building was
supposed to be used to support the Kirby Center. The money, I don't know if it
was federal or state, had been allocated. Obviously the building hasn't been
built. What has happened to that money? Has it been used for some other
purpose? If it was used for some other purpose, who had the authority to
allocate it to another purpose and what was it used for? &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Editor's Note: Your memory is good. The developers were going to build an
upscale apartment/condo high rise called Kirby Towers, of which some of the
proceeds would benefit the F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts. However,
the developers were unable to secure the necessary loans for the project. The
$417,000 Urban Development Action Grant was recalled by the U.S. Department of
Housing and Urban Development. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Exactly what does The Times Leader hope to teach area students with their
new stock market game? How to buy stock in (name of corporation) at $50 a
share and sell it at $8? How much kickback are you getting from local
stockbrokers? &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 The Stock Market Game is a service of our Newspaper in Education program,

 The Stock Market Game is a 10-week simulation that allows students to
pretend they are investing money in businesses- and discover for themselves
the consequences of their decisions. Students compete against other classrooms
for prizes. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 No one is paying us to offer the game. It is offered to teach students how
the stock market works and to give them opportunities to practice basic math
and economics. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In today's paper, where those two firemen are getting let off easier, I
think the mayor should have fired them when he had the chance. It's too late
now. What they have done was a lousy trick and not a joke. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In regards to the person who wrote in the paper on Wednesday, February 4,
about gays: I honestly think that if gays all went back in the closet, life
would be a lot better in this area and around the world. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 What's this I see in Thursday morning's paper, where Mayor McGroarty gives
Mr. Harris the rest of the day off? Mayor McGroarty, this man is suing the
city of Wilkes-Barre; that means it's going to cost the taxpayers money, and
you give this man the rest of the day off? &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I see where the parking garage south in the city is being given to the
employees that are coming in maybe a year or two years now, and the regular
people who have used that parking garage for at least since the building was
built are being shoved out. That's the way the mayor hides everything so that
people don't know what's going on. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

suggesting that employees of the new business be required to live in the city. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I was just wondering how I go about becoming a firemen. It sounds like a
very lucrative career. Even if I'm just waiting to be compensated for
something. My qualifications are, I'm a very good artist, and I have all the
time in the world to hang my artwork all over the city. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I'd like to say congratulations to Bill Stout on getting your job back in
Harding. The whole town was behind you. I feel the people that should be
responsible for paying this $20,000 lawyers fee should be the people that
falsely accused you. Keep up the good work, don't let the next batch of
supervisors get you. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I'm calling in regards to Pittston Area High School. Recently, the
principal announced that a lot of things will be changed. At lunchtime, you
can't move from your table unless you line up to go to the bathroom. Students
are outraged that they're being treated like elementary kids. Many kids can't
go to another school because they live in the district and can't afford to go
to a private school. The education I receive at Pittston Area is excellent,
but do I lose my constitutional rights when I enter the building? I realize
that there are rules and regulations every student must follow, but as a
senior, I will look at this school a different way the rest of my life. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I'm commenting about Thursday, Feb. 5, article on the Valley View Terrace.
I'm only 34 years old, and when I go visit my grandmother there at that
building, I'm nervous. For the people that are standing around the halls, just
the way that they look, their appearances, and if I were older I would
definitely be afraid to live in that building. I think the manager had a lot
of nerve to say that people are complaining only because they're old and
they're bored and have nothing to do. I really think that was rude of her to
make such a comment. Someday she's going to be old and bored, so I really
think she should stop before she said that comment. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I want to thank Steve Corbett for reminding us that our representative
Phyllis Mundy is a pro-choice Democrat. I hope the voters who think abortion
is wrong will remember this at election time, and vote with their hearts to
remove her from office. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 You gave teachers hell, posted their salaries and everything else. How
about getting a hold of the courthouse and find out how many family members
work there? Whether they're related to one another, what their salaries and
what their positions and their vacations and what their duties are? &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
