WILKES-BARRE- A Hazle Avenue man accused of fatally beating a man with a
baseball bat was freed Thursday on $50,000 bail. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Thomas Cavanaugh, 36, of the 200 block of Hazle Avenue, was charged in the
death of Clark Moyer, 42, last month. Moyer had lingered in a coma for more
than a year until his death on Dec. 26., according to published reports. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas Senior Judge Gifford Cappellini
granted Cavanaugh bail on the following conditions: He is not to have contact
with witnesses, he must report to the bail agency and Catholic Social Services
daily, he is not permitted to drink and drive, he may not use drugs or alcohol
or associate with anyone using drugs and alcohol, he must seek and continue
employment and he must follow all court instructions. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Cavanaugh posted $10,000 and was released on his own recognizance for lack
of the remaining $40,000 bail. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 After his beating on Nov. 7, 1996, Moyer had been transferred to several
hospitals, police said. Wilkes-Barre Police Capt. Robert Mitchell has said he
believed Moyer was comatose or semi-comatose for 13 months. Mitchell also said
he believed Moyer was on life support systems since Nov. 7, 1996. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Moyer died at Pleasant Valley Manor, Stroudsburg. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 An autopsy was performed the day after Moyer died. Based on those findings,
Monroe County Coroner Robert Allen ruled homicide as the manner of death
