 Council at Monday night's meeting approved its 1999 budget and pay
increases for some borough employeesPart-time police officers will receive $1
more per hour next year, a raise which will bring their rate to $8.50. The pay
hike unanimously passed after a motion by Councilman John Butchko for a $2
hourly increase failed. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Council President Fred Romanowski said the increase was needed to bring the
borough's four part-time officers' salaries in line with the surrounding areas
and to attract and keep qualified personnel. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Six street department workers will receive a 30-cent hourly increase and
will be paid either $10.25 or $10.55 per hour. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Councilman Gene Gowisnok said the increase is for cost-of-living expenses. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In other business, council passed a $1,121,325 budget for 1999 which
contains no tax increases. The millage rate will remain at 22.
