NANTICOKE &#8212; Private real estate developers made a pitch to the City Council on Wednesday night to have a parcel of land rezoned so student housing could be built on the site.Gary Grossman and D0uglass O&#8217;Dell spoke to council about their plans to build 4-story tall dormitories on the land located off Kosciusko Street during a special meeting prior to the regular monthly meeting.Grossman said that the development would be &#8220;entirely taxable&#8221; and would &#8220;not be sold to LCCC.&#8221;O&#8217;Dell said that in a survey of LCCC students, 76 percent said that there is a need for affordable housing in close proximity to the college.The project would be available for occupancy for the fall semester of 2017.The meeting was held for the purpose of gaining citizen input. No action was taken by council during the session.The matter will be brought to a vote during the month of May.During the regularly scheduled meeting, the council voted to authorize city officials to apply for a state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources grant.The City&#8217;s Great American Clean Up will be held at 8 a.m. on May 9 at the Lower Broadway Park.
