The seventh-grade class at United Hebrew Institute, Kingston, raised funds
for people who suffered losses as a result of the December tsunami. Class
members raised money as part of their community service class and encouraged
all students at the school to hire themselves out to their parents to earn
donations, which would go to the Jewish Federation of Greater Wilkes-Barre's
tsunami-relief fund-raising effort. There were many ways in which the students
earned a total of $435.71 to help some of the people left homeless in
Southeast Asia. Students shoveled snow, set and cleaned their tables,
contributed birthday money, made their beds, washed their dishes, took out
garbage, baby-sat or folded laundry, to name some of their efforts. Some
United Hebrew Institute graduates also got involved by sending donations in
