Want to know if Internet romance really can work? May-December Internet
romance, no less? &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Read the book. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; After meeting her second husband via the World Wide Web, a correspondent
for Time Magazine was so inspired she wrote a novel. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "Teeth in a Pickle Jar" is based on Helena Bachmann's meeting Bob Milligan,
originally from Forty Fort, in 2002. The couple were married in 2003. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "I never really felt the quantum leap to make the move from fact to fiction
until I met my husband," said the author, now Helena Bachmann-Milligan.
"People were asking how we met and saying how I should write a book on it, and
I thought yes." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 She and her husband met because Bachmann-Milligan, who lives in Geneva,
Switzerland, was looking online for a last-minute birthday present for a
friend. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "I was looking for an item, a painted porcelain egg, and I saw one on
PovertyBob.com, the company Bob owns," she said during a phone interview. "I
e-mailed him and asked him to ship it. To this day it remains mysterious, but
for some reason we continued to e-mail each other." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Through those e-mails and eventually phone calls, a friendship was hatched
between Bachmann-Milligan and her now-husband, separated in age by 15 years. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The pair, originally separated by thousands of miles, planned to meet in
New York for what Bachmann-Milligan called a four-day date. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "After, I had to go back to Geneva, and he had to go back to Pennsylvania,"
she said. "We really missed each other." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The couple met again for their second date, an eight-day event, in Florida,
where Bachmann-Milligan has a home. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "The following month he had a two-week ticket to Switzerland and never went
back," she said. "Two days before he was supposed to leave he said he wanted
to stay with me. For him it was a big change. We travel a lot because I still
have a place in Florida. All I need is a laptop and a cell phone to cover
things, and his business is online so we are basically very mobile." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The marriage is the second for the couple, who both have children from
previous marriages. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "At first I was very hesitant to tell people because I didn't know how they
would react," Bachmann-Milligan said. "My girlfriends were totally envious
when I told them. Maybe people are saying something, but I made up my mind not
to pay attention." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "Teeth in a Pickle Jar," is a quick, humorous book about a May-December
romance, started on the Internet, between a couple who live thousands of miles
apart. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "It's really a book about second chances and new beginnings," the
51-year-old author said. "It's about listening to your heart and taking
chances. The premise is based on our true story, but most of the things in the
book are a figment of my imagination." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 When Bachmann-Milligan first broke the news about the book to her husband,
she said, he was very supportive but commented that the man in the book should
be handsome and intelligent. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Bachmann-Milligan said her purpose for writing the book is to inspire women
of all ages and from all walks of life to take a chance on love, to be daring
and follow their hearts. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 She will be at the Tudor Book Shop in Kingston at 1 p.m. Nov. 25 for a book
signing - and perhaps some free moral support. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "Writing a novel you have to be focused and work many hours during the
day," she said. "By chapter four and five I started getting the gist of it." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Bachmann-Milligan, who already has started her second novel, said she now
knows what to do when it comes to writing fiction. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "The second book is completely different," she said. "It's hilarious, I
think." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
