WVC season turns corner, heading for home stretch

First Posted: 1/1/2015 Sunny skies will round out the latter part of this week, but some wintry weather will follow into the weekend.
The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Northeastern Pennsylvania. A storm is expected to approach the northeastern part of the country this weekend, making the potential for snow, sleet and freezing rain on Saturday afternoon and into Saturday night.
By Sunday, the precipitation is expected to be all rain. Gusty winds are also possible with this storm system.
The outlook stressed that some uncertainty remains as to how intense the storm will be, as well as where it will track.
The forecast
The National Weather Service indicated that it was 20 degrees as of 6:54 a.m. at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport. Mostly clear skies kicked off the first day of 2015.
Sunny skies are predicted for today, with a high near 30 degrees. Partly cloudy skies will follow into tonight, with a low in the lower 20s.
Partly sunny skies will round out the week on Friday, with a high in the upper 30s. Mostly cloudy skies will follow on Friday night, with a low in the lower 20s.
Rain, snow and sleet will be likely on Saturday, mainly after 4 p.m. The high will be in the lower 30s.
That mixed precipitation will carry on into Saturday night before becoming all rain after 7 p.m. Saturday night&#8217;s low will be in the lower 30s.
A chance for showers wrap up the weekend on Sunday, with a high in the upper 40s. Mostly cloudy skies will make for a much quieter evening on Sunday night, with a low in the lower 20s.
