SHIPPENSBURG &#8211; Junior Dominic Hockenbury is one of the most accomplished high school runners in Pennsylvania.Sophomore Emily Johns is one of the state&#8217;s rising contenders among throwers.The two Lake-Lehman athletes each won titles April 18 in the 89th Annual Jack Roddick/Shippensburg University High School Track and Field Invitational.Hockenbury won the 1600-meter run while Johns won the discus at the meet, which drew teams from more than 100 schools around the state, trying to get their best athletes exposure to top competition and a chance to compete at the site of the May 22-23 Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Championships.Hockenbury, who has won state titles at longer distances, dominated at 1600 meters, finishing in 4:20.21 to win the Class AA title by more than 3 &#189; seconds. He was the state Class AA 3200-meter champion as a sophomore and won the state Class AA cross country title last fall.The Lake-Lehman girls are tested by a move to Class AAA this season, but even on that level, Johns was able to win the discus with a throw of 128-2 and finish third in the third in the shot put with 39-7.Lake-Lehman was tied for ninth out of 52 teams to score points in Class AAA girls, getting all those points in throwing events. Cayle Spencer was fifth in the javelin with a distance of 122-9.Northwest&#8217;s Tyler Burger had the top individual performance among Wyoming Valley Conference athletes, winning both hurdles races and contributing to a second-place 400-meter relay team to help the Rangers place third in the Class AA boys standings.
