Our Opinion: Take politics out of state education funding

I am a junior at Temple University, pursuing a bachelor degree in political science and a certification in Spanish. My interest in politics and government derived from my participation in the Wilkes-Barre Junior City Council in high school.Wilkes-Barre Junior City Council is a council made up of high school students who are caring and knowledgeable about the Wilkes-Barre. Beth Gilbert and I were on Junior City Council together for two years. She always possessed great ideas for council and the City of Wilkes-Barre. As a native Gilbert truly cares about bringing positive attitude to the city and it shows in her work. She is passionate about helping all citizens in the community. Her experience with Junior City Council will make her a phenomenal member of Wilkes-Barre City Council. Gilbert is a leader, a team player, and a caring individual. She not only listens to individuals&#8217; concerns, she takes the initiative to fix it. Ms. Gilbert and myself would attend council meetings every Tuesday and Thursday and she would always make valuable input on ways to correct issues in the city. From experience working closely with members of council and the mayor, she knows the responsibilities and duties as a city council member. Ms. Gilbert conducted a fundraiser for a women&#8217;s shelter. Ms. Gilbert is passionate about helping those who are underrepresented and tend to fall through the cracks. she believes that every citizen in Wilkes-Barre deserves an equal chance. I truly believe that Ms. Beth Gilbert is a great candidate for the Wilkes-Barre City Council District C seat.
